Guest guest
I have a 21yo NDS and 19 DS and neither has ever liked to color. The trianglular colored pencils helped alot as did fat markers but they are not interested so I don't bother. They have other areas of interest. Guest guest
Hi Angie, With the coloring, have you tried using a tactile border to give her additional sensory input to just where the edges of the item being colored are? Try using puff paint to outline the picture, or something similiar to give her the feel of where the edges are in addition to her visual input. Does that make sense? Also, has she been introduced to Handwriting without Tears? The kids learn to actually construct the letters, can handle the pieces used to build the letters, etc. The added tactile input can help her learn, maybe!! Just some thoughts! Guest guest
Hi Angie, wrote much earlier than she colored in the lines, LOL. Don't know why, but part of it was she didn't really like to color. She would write letters, then words, but if she was asked to draw a picture, watch out! She then moved on to drawing things (that she wanted, not that she was told to do, LOL), and coloring ALL OVER the paper, but now she colors really well..... I mean, surprising well and neatly considering her lack of focused experience in " the coloring years. " :-) I remember kindergarten work where there would be an outline of something (and they do tons of this in kinder) going with the season/lesson/theme and would have put some color on the page, ususally a small amount of a single color. Then she moved to coloring the entire page, with no worries about the lines or the picture she was coloring. I think for her, she was more comfortable holding a pencil and writing...... a crayon didn't feel right or something. She did like markers and colored pencils better than crayons (again, I think the familiar feel of the pencil and writing). Knowing how she progressed, I might have tried some of those new twist up crayons that are the length of a pencil and have a smooth plastic outside........ my guess is would have liked them better as they were more like a pencil. Also, hand position for coloring is much different than writing........ you have to move your hand into different positions to get neatly in the lines... not always comfortable. Personally, I'd continue to encourage her, but in the big picture, reading and writing are more important long-term academic skillls and if she's doing well there, the coloring may just have to wait. Plus, you are never tested or graded on coloring, LOL. What I have found with is that everything seems comes eventually, but there isn't really much point in pushing her on something she doesn't want to do, even if it's somthing simple that WE think she SHOULD be able to do. I also remember that someone told us we could use " Wicki sticks " that are reusable wax strips to give a border to whatever she was coloring, but I never tried them. Good luck! , mom to (11), (8 DS), and Sammy (7) Angie Tate wrote: > why does coloring frustrate me so much? lol > when will she get the concept of staying in the lines? Guest guest
Angie, I wouldn't worry about coloring within the lines. Syndie is most likely trying her hardest. To see how hard she tries, try coloring with your non-dominate hand (sit on the other) and see how hard it is. Maybe the goal needs replaced with something more attainable.
