I request any shipments made to me to be valued under 60 dollars by the seller when shipping. if this isnt acceptable from the supplier then I do not order from them. it has all to do with economics here not the suppliers themselves. I once had a 350 dollar order shipped and had to pay over 100 dollars to can customs on top of the regular cost of shipping all because the supplier put the proper amount on the bill. I always mention that if shipment is lost them it is my responsibility not the suppliers.... Guest guest
About this shipping business... UPS will make two delivery attempts, and then they return the item to the sender. When they come to the door, it is rare if they leave a telephone number, let alone a tracking number. They will not deliver in the evening, and if you want it delivered on a Saturday the Sender would have had to specify a Saturday, and it's an extra $15 charge. It the sender did not specify that, they will not change the delivery. You can't imagine how disappointing it is to find an item you want to order on a website, but they only send by UPS! They only thing more irksome, is to place an order with a company and request delivery by USPS, only to have them sent UPS. If your customer's did not request UPS, or Fedex, or other courier service, do not sent it that way. (really ticked, as items I ordered to be sent by mail where actually sent by UPS, and the second delivery attempt was made on the 23rd, and I still do not have a tracking number!) Laurie Ann. Guest guest
Hmmmm....UPS always makes 3 attempts...is it different in Canada? I was a little disgruntled with their surcharge...haven't used my Fedex account yet internationally, except to the U.K. Maybe I will see what the difference is with Fedex. Now I have shipped to Canada before with the Post Office, but once it leaves the U.S., it can't be tracked, is what they tell me! But I know having spoken with potential Canadian suppliers before, they don't like UPS! Small wonder eh? Khadiyja Y. Guest guest
I hate to be a nudge, here, but you do realize that this would be considered tax avoidance, which is so illegal that you could lose your business, don't you? (I'm assuming that you operate a business). If a product is manufactured in the US, there is no customs duty, only taxes, thanks to NAFTA. Even if you are not charged GST and PST by the carrier, you are legally required to self-assess, (even if the purchase is from another province, not another country). This is true on business purchases of all amounts, not just those over a certain dollar value. Remember, GST paid is netted out against GST charged, so its not like its your money we're talking about with taxes, it's already the government's. In BC, PST is now collected at the border, but the tax return does allow you to deduct PST paid on exempt purchases. You do get a commission on the PST that you collect, so again, it's not like you're losing out by properly completing the form. (I'm assuming that even if you don't make $30,000 or more/annum, you do have a GST number and PST or HST number) The fee that ticks me off is the $5 handling fee that Canada Post charges me for the privilege of collecting the duty and tax...I don't begrudge the tax or duty itself...but I always factor that cost in before making a decision to purchase. Bought mine through the head office in States (last year): they will take care of everything for a Canadian customer. My experience was a pleasant one:) Yes, it does fall expensive, but than one does not have to worry about shipping and customs. Good Luck. Should you want to contact me for more info, connect w/me directly.
