When was about 13, our Behavior Specialist wrote a social story for him

about " the bathroom rules " ...... which included things like " no talking to other

people in the bathroom " , " no singing or talking to myself in the bathroom: " and

" just take care of business, wash hands and leave the bathroom " . It was highly

successful, although it took a few years for me to not be standing outside the

men's bathroom doing the " hollar in the door " thing! After reading the story

too him (and later having him read it to me) we would go on our merry way to

football games, church, rest-stops on Interstate 79, where-ever, and all I

would have to say is " Remember the bathroom rules " as he headed to the men's

room. This is when I usually got the rolled eyes....... " I KNOW Mom!! "

In retrospect, I think mom's of young children may start talking about the

bathroom rules early, so that it isn't all a new thing when they get to be a

teen! I think that as soon as you can tell that the hormones are raging and he

will be likely to stare at the girls or women in the ladie's room, that's the

time to start sending him to the men's room. Just my opinion!

Reggie - who mostly lurks, but felt a need to jump in on this one!
