Guest guest
My children don't have drinks just before bed, and I do not cut their fluids off at a certain time either. When they are ready, they should wake up on their own and go potty (like the rest of us) in the middle of the night if they have to go. I just make sure eveyone goes potty before getting into bed. I'm hoping my son will eventually wake up before peeing as he get older, he has to right? He won't even wake up after soaking his bed, so he's got to be a hard sleeper! Potty training advice Hi everyone, I looking to see if anyone can help me... My daughter, K.C. is going to be turning 5 in January. We've been working on potty training her for quite a while now, and she is doing pretty good overall. She wears regular underwear during the daytime, and will sometimes go a whole day without having an accident. When she does have an accident, she will strip off her pants and underwear, so I am thinking that she doesn't like how it feels. I also notice that she tends to have a lot of accidents when she is napping or just waking up from a nap. When I put her down for bed at night, I put her in a pull up, but I am wondering if I should just go " cold turkey " at night, and put up with some sleepless nights while she learns that it's not a comfortable feeling to wet your jammies? My thought is that if she has an accident while she is sleeping it will wake her up, and she won't like it, and might learn to hold it until she gets up (or learns to get up and go potty). Has anyone had any experiences with this? Oh, and by the way, her accidents in her underwear are only limited to peeing. She has no problem pooping in the potty (and I can't remember when the last time that she pooped in her pull-up!!) Yeah!!. Anyway, if anyone has any advice...I'd love to hear it. Thank you!! Guest guest
My youngest (age 7) is a very hard sleeper, and will wet the bed frequently UNLESS we limit fluids after bedtime, make sure she goes right before bed, then take her again at about 11:30 (right before we got to bed). She has a decent success rate this way, but it's a real pain since she won't wear pullups at night. She will wake up eventually in the soaking bed, change her PJs and crawl in with us, but it seems like it's usually after the fact that she realizes she's wet, not right away. Pediatrician just wrote a Rx for a med to use infrequently (like for sleepovers), since I don't want to let her wet someone elses bed :-) Pediatrician says that hard sleepers are tough, and the only thing that works (except for time) is a bed alarm, and these work 85% of the time. She said that although the don't alarm until the child begins to pee, it wakes them up and they have to get up to finish on the potty.... they eventaully get used to waking up to go on their own. She also advised us to get the one that vibrates, since some kids just tune out the beeping noise. I have been searching the internet and there are a variety of alarms, so if we get one and it works, I'll post the details. We were doing a remodel and didn't have a washer after was daytime trained, so I kept her in a pullup for awhile at night (until we had a washer again, LOL). I was checking, and after a time, her pullups were always dry in the morning, so we just stopped using them and she's only had two or three accidents in 2+ years. But, she was really ready by the time I got rid of the pullups, LOL. I think that sleep is important to our kids.... many of them don't sleep well, and they need all they can get to focus at school, behave well at school (or is my kid the only one who gets crabby if she'd tired :-) so I felt like I'd rather make sure she had a good night's sleep in a pullup rather than having her wake up with a wet bed in the name of potty training. It's easy to tell when the pullups are dry in the morning more than wet, so if I had a child that was frequently wet after sleeping, I think I'd wait a bit..... night time pullups are not so bad :-) But, there's no right answer, unfortunately, it would be so much easier if we knew the " right " answer :-) , mom to (10), (8 DS), and Sammy (7) Rene Vaughn wrote: > My children don't have drinks just before bed, and I do not cut their > fluids off at a certain time either.
