Hi Everyone...

My name is Dawn... My Vitamix is scheduled to arrive tomorrow ( I ordered Sunday

through vm.com and I am just jumping up and down with joy. I decided to

purchase a Vitamix as I was looking for ways to eat healthy and save money. My

family already eats pretty healthfully, but I was looking for a way to amp that

up. I've bought a couple of juicers in the past and not much juice came out

along with the waste of the good stuff.... I am so impressed the VM just munches

everything right up and cleanup is so easy. I did a lot of research as the VM

is an investment... decided to get the 32, 64 wet and the 32 dry. I chose a

refurb and after joining this group and reading up any fears about the refurb

dissipated. Thanks for the New member link Lea Ann... I'll be checking all the

links out. I'm looking forward to getting to know all the VM users and learning

and sharing.... :)

Welcome, Dawn! Make yourself t'home, browse around, and make sure when your Vitamix arrives that you thoroughly acquaint yourself with whatever instructional media come with it before you start blending. You're going to be up to speed in no time!

BTW, I've been juicing seriously since I got my first Vita-Mix in 1988--I got both appliances within weeks of each other. Juicing has its place but if you always want the fiber, stick to your Vitamix.

Not me, although you've been Vita-blending longer than I have. I got my first in 1988.

Can you post how you make the flavoured coffees. I have found that all of the recipes in the book call for instant coffee and I do not buy instant coffee but I do have the whole beans that I grind myself in a coffee grinder but I should try grinding them in the VM but just have not done so yet. Do you know if I would grind them in the dry container then?

Sugar free syrups? wow never heard of those. I miss sam's as we no longer have it. I need a hot drink now because it is sooo darn cold and whether it is hockey or riding it involves a cold arena and I love to take my hot cappaccino with me.

I don't think I have ever seen them here in Canada, maybe something to add to my list if I get back to sam's in the states and have to admit that I too would love the Kahlua flavour! LOL!

The syrups have Splenda in them. Not the best, but when you are a

fragile insulin dependent type 1 diabetic, you use what you can. Esp

since he loves coffee. The brand they carry is Da Vinci and his

favorite is Kahlua flavor, but I also see Torani brand with tons of

flavors at other places such as Smart and Final store. He uses the

syrups in his hot coffee at times too and likes all but the Hazelnut

(well he also does not like the fruit ones like orange, does not go

with coffee, LOL). I did not buy them when they had Nutrasweet

(Equal) in them, but now that they are Splenda I try to keep one on

hand for him for a treat.

Recipe for DiVinci sugar free substitute and Lee Ann can give you what equivalent of Stevia to use probably.

1/4 cup water 1 Tablespoon almond extract 1/2 cup Splenda I would think you could use any flavor extract. Hope this helps. PS This is equivalent to 2/3 cup sugar free almond syrup

Thanks, I don't think he would try this as he likes his thick and

syrupy to use both in coffee and on other stuff (his once in a while

dish of vanilla ice cream).

I bet could help you come up with something that would make it "thick and syrupy" AND be healthier at the same time. Blended Chia gel in place of the water?

You can also just add a bit of fresh flavoring (such as a scraped vanilla bean) to a little agave for a quick "syrup". I often blend organic cocoa powder with agave for a "syrup" for my daughter's coffee. I also roast, then grind raw coffee beans, make a very strong, very dark "coffee", and reduce that to a strong concoction, then add agave to it. I freeze this mixture into an ice cube tray, then transfer to a jar to store in the freezer-nice and easy to throw a couple of cubes into a quick ice cream, smoothie, or hot coffee drink.

, when you say that you "reduce that to a strong concoction", how do you go about doing that? Put it in a saucepan on a burner on your stove and reduce in that manner? Yes, Franny, that is exactly what I do-reduce it on the stovetop. I find no bitterness to it, but again, it is made with home roasted/ground beans-not sure if commercial beans would become bitter? Don't see why they would, but can't say for sure. I just reduce it by half or so, then add agave and vanilla bean or cocoa powder.

I can just see my husbands face if he saw me putting chia seeds into

his coffee syrup. ROTFLOL

Don't worry about it, he eats what he chooses. I would rather spend

my time coming up with smoothies I like, since he already found

something he likes in the Kahlua Da Vinci syrup. I am so proud of

him in that he has been a diabetic since surgery (drugs destroyed

his pancreas) in 1989 but has only minimal eye damage and no

significant heart disease, and still has all his toes! He works hard

at it all the time. He gets discouraged then I give him the speech

on all the above and he gets back to it, counting carbs and

measuring insulin.

He does like agave once in a while, but not sure how he could get

the Kahlua flavor in there. Not going to worry about it though, but

thanks. Might ask him though about the ice cube thing. He might go

for trying it once.

1/4 cup water

1 Tablespoon almond

extract

1/2 cup Splenda

I would think you could

use any flavor extract.

2/3 cup sugar free almond

they actually make a kahluha extract, I think. No clue what is in it though. Could be someone duplicated with fresh hazelnuts, cocoa, and vanilla, strong coffee.
