I wouldn't even ask her/him. That is a better question for the Director or Special Education/Pupil Services Hi Jackie, Thanks......I tried though! I called the special ed dept and they told me that they wouldn't write a transfer for my daughter. I told her other children from our community were going to that school and she said......well, not special ed. We then began to get into an argument. I tried to reason/ask questions and she told me she was not going to 'go there' with me?? Sometimes I feel like I've been punched in the stomach by insensitive people. Then my confidence as a Mom is squashed! ....then, I write to others that have been-there-done-that, pick myself up, dust off and go back to work! I've not picked myself up yet though. Any help would be great here! Thanks, Laurie

That was the problem =( I told him that she could attend 1st grade-reg ed, just needed someone to take her potty and walk from a to b. That is when he said......she could cost too much! ...meaning her services and her aid! Thanks, Laurie
Guest guest
When we lived in Alabama we had one, but we obtained the application from Student Services and filled it out, had no problem getting it granted, and we didn't have to talk to anyone. Guest guest
Just my .02 here... Just wondering if the person you were talking with realizes that special education is not a class or location, it is a service. The services your child needs can be delivered regardless of the location of the class. Guest guest
We got transfers for two of our children to a system in a suburb of our city. I did not try to get one for our son with DS. (Didn't see any advantage for him to be there.) I have often thought that $$$ for sped might be a problem. However, I believe that if a school issues transfers for any students, it should be available to 'any' of them. Seems like that would be right legally--but I don't have any experience with it. Best wishes to you. Shirley
Guest guest
Yes, it was for , and she did have an IEP. We wanted her in an inclusive setting, it was offered at our district school, but it was only starting, so we wanted her in the other program. Any talk about something being to expensive to provide is against the law. They cannot use this as any criteria. She has to receive ALL the supports and services that vould make her successful before any talk of the placement not working out!!
