Guest guest
A great thing about most steamers is they come with stackable steaming baskets, so you can easily add more meat or poultry to one basket for hubby, and less or none to another basket of the otherwise same ingredients for you. I find it the simplest method of cooking, and is certainly handy for lightly steaming things before pureeing them in the VM! Wouldn't the VitaMix cook it? I just lightly steam cauliflower in my steamer, put it in the VM with a splash of rice or almond milk (can use real milk or cream, if desired) and a pinch of sea salt. I use enough cauliflower to give it the body and texture I want, and it turns out very velvety and smooth. You can add grated cheese, herbs or other seasonings. This is a thick, rich, lovely soup that I eat daily. This also works with steamed cabbage, beets, or other veggies.
Guest guest
One way you might "trick" hubby, is to steam with a rub of tumeric, paprika, or "blackened" seasoning-gives the color of sauteed without the hassle-bet if you don't TELL him it was actually steamed, he won't notice-mine never did, lol. Guest guest
I have actually tried that and he did notice and complained. He is big on the flavor of the browning. Personally I don't care as it is the actual proteins flavor I am liking, but now I prefer the taste of veggies. Guest guest
Actually, that wouldn't have worked on me, either. Re: Fw: Re: Soup recipes - made predominantly in vitamix Date: Saturday, March 26, 2011, 3:26 AM
Guest guest
I make this chinese chicken salad, where usually I boil the chicken, using the broth for something else and chopping the chicken with lots of cabbage and other stuff. He wants me to saute the chicken til brown to do it. Velda On 3/27/2011 12:43 PM, wrote: Actually, that wouldn't have worked on me, either.
