This is for all my insomniac friends :My

entire life I've had trouble going to sleep. For years now I've done a combo of L-tryptophan, melatonin, Valerian root and wine to get to sleep. Often it was bad enough that I added benadryl to the mix. The last couple of months I would go to sleep with that but often wake up in

2-4 hours and not be able to go back to sleep.I tried some chamomile tea and oh my goodness for the first time in months I slept close to 8 hours. The next night I tried it with JUST the tea. Again I slept close to 8 hours! It's been a week now with plenty of sleep using nothing more than the tea. I get mine from Mighty Leaf but any good source should work as well.

Chamomile is fabulous! It is my daughter's favorite night time beverage, and we grow our own and make a "honey, vanilla, chamomile drink with it. SO glad you found a remedy that works for you! Do keep in mind though, that chamomile should not be taken with valarien, and you should take a break from it once or twice a week to avoid ragweed allergies, if they are a problem for you. ,I didn't know it couldn't be taken with valarian so that is good to know. I haven't had to use anything since that first night. I don't know of any problem with ragweed but that doesn't mean I don't have them. Is there another tea that I could use on my days off from chamomile?Kim in ORFrom: lil_joy <lil_joy69@...>Subject: OT NO more insomnia for me Date: Tuesday, February 22, 2011, 11:35 AM

Kim, if you have no issues with ragweed, you probably don't need to take a break from it-I just wanted to give you a heads up in case you do have issues (keep in mind I view EVERYTHING as a potential allergen, so I just try to alert someone when there is a known problem) If you do want to switch now and then, there are many lovely herbs that are relaxing, valerian included. I suggest looking at your local health food shop for some of the offerings. Elderberry is another of our favorites, which we also grow, but I see it in health food stores as well. Don't just look where tea BAGS are sold, but look where the dried herbs/seeds/etc are sold. You can often find all sorts of herbal flowers and stuff that can easily be brewed into a nice hot beverage. • 8 months later...

I love chamomile tea, mostly for the taste, I don't notice an affect on me. But I can sleep fine even if I have a cup of caffeinated coffee right before bed.  My husband on the other had CAN NOT SLEEP at all, he has a decent diet at home, but I see where his diet needs work (consistent meals/snacks vs just two big ones a day, needs breakfast - he's been better at taking a smoothie with him to work - etc), but he isn't a coffee drinker, he does like iced tea (usually Peace Tea brand) and rarely has a soda, unless he neeeeeeds a pick me up. But our dinners are always balanced and nutritional and we rarely do dessert unless it's fruit or a small piece of chocolate if it's in the house.  He isn't much of a hot tea drinker but I mentioned to him this weekend maybe he should try chamomile tea before bed, but he has not tried it yet - we will have to tonight.  It sounds like it worked wonders with you Joy.  Thanks for the tid-bit.
