Guest guest
Today went back to school ( " looking much better " said the health assistant as I gave her the doctor's note..... she's no different than every morning, LOL). I taped a copy of the doctors note into the communication notebook with an explaination that basically said " Thank you for your concerns regarding 's health..... " " ....took her to the doctor, and the doctor's letter is attached..... " reminded them that we are in 's typical " testing " period, and that I didn't want to reinforce that she could go to the office and get sent home every time she " looked droopy or tired " , " said I don't feel well " , or exhibited " I don't want to do this " behaviors. I went on to explain that we were trying a new Rx nasal spray to try and combat her persistant post-nasal drip, and that I would try her with Sudafed (as per doc) but wanted to wait until the weekend to see if it made her sleepy. I explained that I am most certainly concerned about 's health, and they should not hesitate to contact me if they have any concerns, and that I would come to see her for myself, but that I would be following the doctor's classification of " ill " and " not ill " and perhaps not be taking her home quite as much. I did it nicely, and tried to get across that if they think she's ill, please let me know and I'll come and decide, but that I wouldn't be taking her home just 'cuz the told me too..... I'd follow her doctor's instructions. I also wrote a nicey nice response on the " daily behavior log " in the " Parent comment " section that basically said that I noticed there were no comments about anything that accomplished during the day, rather only the things she didn't do well, refused to do, or had trouble with. There were detailed notes about how many times she took her shoes off during math, but not any mention of how much math she got done. I thanked the aide for verbally telling (as I was taking her home sick on Tuesday) that she did a great job with her cursive " b " s that day, and how much better she did than the day before, but that on the daily log sheet, all it said was " Cursive b " , and had I not overheard her speaking with about it, I would have not known she had such a success that day, and could she perhaps write about some of 's successes during the day as well, as we really enjoyed hearing those as well?? This is (of course) no news to the aide, but she (in 3 years) not been very successful writing anything positive about 's day, and as you all know, it gets OLD only hearing how bad your kid was. I can't to see the paper with cursive b's in it (and we wrote into her IEP that she didn't HAVE to do cursive, but she's really liking it apparently.... go figure) Turned the communications stuff in this morning, and had a report from a friend (by 10:30) who overheard the aide complaining in the staff lounge to 's last year's teacher that I had written her a nasty note. Don't know which one she meant, but neither were nasty (and I know the difference!) Team meeting is on Sept. 26, and I try and have these first meeting cordial and not picky, but it seems like the aide is getting tired of working with ......... as sweet as she is, she's still work to be patient and creative and positive (don't I know it!). Does anyone have experience with having the same aide for a number of year? This will be their 4th year together....... is that too much? Off to pick them up......... school days are awfully short :-)
