Guest guest
Does anyone have any Winsor Pilates Tapes? If so, can you give me an honest opinion. Do they work for you? Are you using them with the exercise bands. Which ones did you start off with and where did you get them? Sorry for so many questions but appreciate the help \
Guest guest
I have the original set here with me...ordered from TV and the second series ordered from an email I was sent. But the second series is with Patty and she'll be sending them back one of these days. I don't have the ones with the bands. I don't do them consistently, so I'm no help there. I do them when I'm in the mood and remember to do my conditioning. It's one of those once every few months things that I'll do it. Guest guest
, The original Winsor tapes are what I am using for Pilates right now. There are probably better Pilates tapes out there but I think if its your first Pilates tapes they are good to have because they explain the moves plus how to modify the moves for weak parts of the body (neck, back, core, shoulders, whatever). I can't hold my head up during a whole Pilates workout because it gives me A LOT of pain. But its all ok, not as good a workout but it still works out the core area. A lot of Pilates tapes I've seen assume you can figure out the modifications yourself or can do all the moves. I also think she points out some of the common mistakes people make. The cueing is actually good enough that after you know the moves you don't have to watch the tape (useful because watching the tv can be hard during some of the moves) That said after a while you'll probably want to try a different workout, but it seems most beginner mat programs contain the same moves. If you have a nice strong core the advanced looks like a fun challenge and it progresses from one move to the next in a quicker fashion. Of course no modifications in the advanced - I guess by the time you do those you should be able to do the exercises or you should know the modifications. I have really seen a lot of benefit from these, but am still working at a beginner level (3 months into doing it 3 times a week) I did the basics Pilates that shows and explains the moves just once and now I do the 20 minute workout. Mine also have the ab sculpting workout and advanced body slimming, but I'm not strong enough for those yet. I doubt I will ever be anything more than a beginner at these:) If you know Pilates already though I'd try another workout instead.. Tolson wrote: > Does anyone have any Winsor Pilates Tapes? Guest guest
LOL. , I have both Stott and Winsor Pilates (Advanced Body Sliming, Bun & Thigh Sculpting, Power Sculpting and Advanced Power Sculpting) DVDs (I love all pilates....hehehe).......some people find Moira of Stott Pilates too dry and boring, but her technique is wonderful. Mari Winsor can be good too if you have good technique under your belt (which I still do not so I tend to stay away from her DVDs until I get better.) I am much better at reformer pilates then at matwork, although I have been spending much more time on the mat lately. Tonya would be the mat expert and the best person to ask. :-) Robin > hi elizabeth, > > the only winsor tape i have is the from the first set, so it woudn't have the band, it is acclerated body sculpt. its a good workout but b/c its a longer workout i don't do it that much. it works abs, back, and some legs but it isn't the tough for the seasoned exerciser but the beginner and intermediated could benefit from it. i found this one at a thrift for $2 but winsor pilates can be found at collagevideo.com. they have mini previews so you can see if the workout is something you would like. they sell some of the dvds at target and probably amazon.com as well. but our pilates expert robin might want to sway you to stott pilates. i havent' done them personally but those who have just rave about the workouts. > > kassia > > > --------------------------------- > Sell on Auctions - No fees. Guest guest
I actually started my pilates practice with the original Winsor Pilates from an infomercial. The first time I did it, I couldn't even get through the 20 minute workout, so I just sat on the bed and watched my daughter do the whole thing! It is great for beginners, because Mari Winsor is very precise in her instruction. I haven't seen any of her new ones though, because I've moved on to other forms of Pilates. I'm kind of a contemporary and like to change up the workouts some, so I don't like the formula of starting a workout with a certain exercise and ending with a certain exercise, which kind of bugged me about Winsor, but that is just me. I know other instructors of Pilates that do the same thing in the gym and I don't take their classes either for the same reason. Now that I'm more advanced (I teach Pilates in the gym.) I've found that I prefer the Caribbean workout Pilates dvd's because they are always different. I also like the Intermediate and Advanced New York Style Pilates dvds because they are more like what I do in my classes, which I call Pilatesculpt. Anyway, Yes, Winsor Pilates is a good place to start, but be prepared that after a while you will want to move on to other styles and find the one that works best for you. Guest guest
, For that pain in your neck, here is a solution. When you are doing anything when you are doing any exercise (especially ab work) where you are putting a strain on your neck, take your tongue and place it behind your upper front teeth and apply pressure with the tongue. It causes the muscles in the neck to tighten up and support itself so it won't hurt as bad. Hope it helps! Guest guest
Oh that sounds fun. Band work is so hard. Of course I'm not sure I can do tougher. I've been lazy with my abs work for the past few months. I need to be better with it all the time instead of just when my focus is the core.
