Guest guest
Hi all! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! My M & P soap baskets were a hit with those that I gave them to for Christmas gifts, but now that I have some extra time on my hands (is there any such thing as extra time?) I'm feeling adventurous and want to try my very first batch of cold-process soap - and that's where I need help!!! Does anyone on the list have an EASY recipe that is fool-proof - or nearly fool-proof for a first timer??? Any help would be sincerely appreciated! Thanks! Guest guest
I recently made my first batch of CP soap and was very happy with the results. ingredients: 300grams Coconut oil 200g Palm oil 500g Olive oil 375 ml Water 145g Sodium Hydroxide 10g Lavender essential oil Pour water into bowl and stir in the Sodium Hydroxide (Lye)and leave to cool ( in future I will use a little less Sodium Hydroxide, maybe 130g) be careful to wear gloves and watch out for the fumes. Next melt Coconut and Palm oil over a pan of hot water, once fully melted add Olive oil, check temperatures. Once the solutions had cooled a little ( Lye at about 96F and Oils about 104F) I mixed them together using a stick blender and got trace within 5 mins. At trace add lavender oil and mix a little longer. When the mixture was like a thick custard I poured it into my mould, covered the whole thing with a blanket and left until the next day when I found I had a block of soap. I had lined the mould with greaseproof paper so it was easy to lift out. I wish I had cut the soap whilst still in the mould as I believe it would have been easier. The cut blocks were left for 4 weeks to cure and are now being used. Good luck
