Guest guest Posted March 16, 2011 Report Share Posted March 16, 2011 Traditional Spanish horchata is made with something called a "tiger nut" that I seem to recall is actually a little root (you can buy the fixings as well as the finished product online from a vendor I really like--La Tienda). I've never had it. Mexican horchata, on the other hand, is made from rice and/or almonds. I'm sure there are a ton of recipes online and the Vitamix could handle any of them with aplomb. Also, Anson Mills has a recipe that utilizes their own Carolina Gold rice flour. My family lives in Grosse Pointe Shores, I attended school for a while in Bloomfield Hills, and I've been here in NYC since the end of 1974! I always tell people I'm from Detroit, though--I only get specific if the situation warrants it (it's all Wayne County anyway). Anyone interested should check out a site called "The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit" (I think). Heartbreaking but the architecture (or what's left of it) is unbelievable.
