Sorry that I can't help you with the Horchata recipe (I've never even heard of it) but if there aren't any Costco or Sam's Club Road shows coming to your friend's area any time soon, I'd love it if you let your friend know that she would get Free Shipping if she ordered through me :-)I looked up Horchata http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horchata and it looks to me like this is just cinnamon flavored rice or "other" "mylks" served either hot or cold! Cool!Horchata recipes: http://www.google.com/search?client=safari & rls=en & q=horchata+recipe & ie=UTF-8 & oe=UTF-8The Vitamix combined with a Horchata recipe ought to be an excellent demonstration of its superior blending ability - especially if you made sesame seed or almond based Horchata. To strain the pulp, you might be interested in one of these nut "mylk" bags... http://home.shop.ebay.com/Home-Garden-/11700/i.html?_catref=1 & _fln=1 & _ipg= & _ssn=rawpriestess & _trksid=p3911.c0.m282 (this link came from the "links" link on our home page).

My girlfriend is skeptical of the VM and I'm trying to prove to her why it is so awesome (granted she has not seen the machine in person yet). Anyways, she's coming over this weekend and is asking me about Horchata, I've never even heard of this drink yet. Has anyone ever made this drink? What is your favorite or the most authentic recipe?

I am sure the VM will be a key element to making this at home! :)

Traditional Spanish horchata is made with something called a "tiger nut" that I seem to recall is actually a little root (you can buy the fixings as well as the finished product online from a vendor I really like--La Tienda). I've never had it.

Mexican horchata, on the other hand, is made from rice and/or almonds. I'm sure there are a ton of recipes online and the Vitamix could handle any of them with aplomb. Also, Anson Mills has a recipe that utilizes their own Carolina Gold rice flour.

Hey, I'm from there! My family lives in Grosse Pointe Shores, I attended school for a while in Bloomfield Hills, and I've been here in NYC since the end of 1974! I always tell people I'm from Detroit, though--I only get specific if the situation warrants it (it's all Wayne County anyway).

I would LOVE to! :)))

People don't realize just how beautiful Detroit was--unique in that there was a great deal of urban (as opposed to suburban) residential wealth. Anyone interested should check out a site called "The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit" (I think). Heartbreaking but the architecture (or what's left of it) is unbelievable.
