Guest guest
, what type/brand solar oven do you have? I am hoping to convince husband that we need one. He keeps wanting to build one out of cardboard, but I am not playing here, I want to do real solar cooking without worrying about a rain storm dissolving it! Guest guest
Velda, I have tried the cardboard box, homemade petal cooker, and other homemade versions-they all worked okay, but my SOLAR SPORT is the bomb! I have been cooking daily in it for 6 years now, and it works a charm. If you want to buy one, let me know. I do NOT sell them, but I have a wholesale buying club so we can get them wholesale. Guest guest
- when it is time to place an order - I don't mind if you post on list to get a group together. Perhaps post on the list then have all of the detail (how tos) discussions off-list, but I'm sure that when it is time to place an order, lots of people on the list will appreciate the notice that an order is being placed. Guest guest
Thanks again, Lea Ann! I will be placing an order in about 2 weeks. I will post the pertinent info before then. The solar oven is a wonderful addition to the Vitamix, since you can roast PLENTY off veggies ahead of time for later processing in the VM. I just put 4 whole pumpkins in my solar, which will roast all day while I am not even home. Later this evening, I will buzz up the insides of the pumpkins into a lovely puree in the VM, then freeze it for ice cream, soups, etc. Nice and easy-that's my style, lol. Guest guest
Year around? Where do you live? Plants here got a good freeze in Dec and except my tomato and basil I moved into the sun room, all else would have died, well except for my citrus trees which are protected by being next to a big concrete block wall where they have the advantage of residual heat. I should look up seed for mini pumpkins. They sound fun. Do you put in a watering system, or water by hand? Would love to see you put up pics on the group website. Guest guest
I grow year round in Western NC, but I have an extensive indoor growing system that would put most off of the hobby. In my case, it is ESSENTIAL that I grow my own, since I am highly allergic to the chemicals used in most growing, and even organic growers use some that I don't tolerate. Growing my own food is the only way to assure I don't have issues. Over the years, my frantic outdoor gardening to preserve for winter has evolved into a full time growing season year round. Very involved, very expensive, but very rewarding. I will post some pics to the files. Guest guest
I am very interested in what you are doing. I have a good sized sun room and if I can get family to help haul the Christmas boxes still there down to the garage (if it ever stops raining long enough!), then I hope to add to the basil, pepper and tomato plants there at moment, to get them ready to move out front to places on the porch. I really want to develop more grow box places to grow enough to dehydrate this year. So am interested in all your ideas. Even if I could not afford to do all you do, I know I can benefit from your ideas and add over time. Thanks will look forward to pictures.
