OT: Excalibur Ok, all. I know this topic has come up before, but I'm looking for advice before I take the plunge. This http://cgi.ebay.com/Excalibur-Dehydrator-3926T-Factory-Blemished-Model-/11065054\ 3778?pt=Small_Kitchen_Appliances_US & hash=item19c3494ea2 is a factory 'blemished' top of the line 9 tray with timer (I remember there are very strong feelings on the list about the timer). Does this seem a fair deal/good price? I tend to lose track of what I'm doing so having the timer seems a good idea to me, too. I will probably have to add some nonstick sheeting, as my little people really like fruit leather made in the dehydrator. any other things I shoudl be considering adding? I can only find a few on craigslist, none local, so they'd all require shipping and craigslist price on used 9 tray (with no warranty of course) is about $125.00. Anyone? Guest guest
No to the wax paper. First, the heat melts the wax, causing it to get on your food. While the wax on wax paper is "safe" for food storage, you really don't want to actually consume it, and you will if you melt it. The wax on wax paper is GMO soy, relative to the conversation we were having earlier. I know some people do use silipat mats, but I personally am leery of silicone in cooking too-lots of GMO soy and dyes in that as well. I do use butcher paper for some things in the dehydrator, if I can find unwaxed. I also use a glass cutting board. From: hatchjoyce <Joyce_Handy@...>Subject: Re: Fw: OT: Excalibur Date: Monday, March 14, 2011, 10:47 PM I'm curious; can you use wax paper instead of the paraFlexx sheets? Guest guest
I heard back that someone does, but it doesn't seem to work well. A couple of people said to buy the thin plastic cutting boards like at the dollar store. Good luck, Beverly Re: Fw: OT: Excalibur I'm curious; can you use wax paper instead of the paraFlexx sheets?
