Guest guest
Several years ago while holding Nic down and being kicked and clawed at while getting his teeth LOOKED AT (not cleaned) the dentist said to me, " One day he'll walk in and jump into the chair. " Well, yesterday was the day! I was so proud of Nic. He actually let them do everything they needed with minimal objections. He whined a little when cleaning his teeth and kept saying it hurt. He has sensory issues so I'm sure it was just a reaction to the sound and vibration the cleaning tool made. I had tears in my eyes as I sat in a chair next to his. The dental hygienist is SO good with him. (and her assistant). She spoke to him in a very soft voice and just kept telling him what a big boy he was, at one point I thought he was going to fall asleep. She rewarded him with 2 stickers which he kept reminding her of during the exam. A few weeks ago, he had a haircut. His reaction to the electric clippers was always the same as a dental exam. EXCEPT for this last time. He sat and let her use the clippers with minimal objections(again, a little whining for dad). I suppose perseverance, patience and a little maturity finally paid off. So all of you out there who think your child will never have an easy-going haircut or dentist visit, hang in there it'll happen. Di mom to Nic (9) DS and Jake (23) from PA. Guest guest
This is so amazing Di because yesterday Micah let my mother's hairdresser cut his hair!!!! We have the same issues with dental and haircuts. So bad that he had 5 hours of dental surgery last October. Anyhoo, I have my mom with me cause she broke her shoulder. I took her to have her hir done yesterday and Micah watched and said " Me turn " I said " Okay " never believing for a moment. Well he hopped up in that chair and let her cut his hair and even use the buzzers!!!!!! He had one moment where he put his head in his hands and then shook it off! I was astounded. Took a zillion pictures on my camera phone cause I knew hubby would never believe it!! I told hairdresser. You cannot believe how HUGE this is!!! So now I get your good news and I am thinking....could it be....next dental visit will be better. I am with you and your tears Di. After being in a literal cold sweat after every visit...tears are called for WHOO HOO TO OUR BOYS!!! IT WAS A GRAND DAY YESTERDAY!!! Guest guest
Do you guys think it might be more age related? Karrie just got her hair styled for the very first time in 10 years!! She told me to stay up front. She went back, let the lady brush her hair, section it off, cut it, and then BLOW DRY it!!! After about 4 minutes with the blow dryer, she said, " Please stop now " . The lady did and Karrie was fine!! She got out of the chair, looked in the mirror and said, " I gorgeous now! " . We, too, are seriously facing braces in the very near future. She let the dentist not only check her teeth, but clean them, put the floride on them and even x-ray them! The dentist said since he was having good results with Karrie, he didn't want anyone else to take over, so he did the cleaning, treating and x-rays himself!! Guest guest
I like this idea....... let's do a research study. Thursday (I think this is the day was saw an exceeding ammount of cooperation) was 2 days after a full moon, and it was as the 13th (which apparently isn't unlucky in this case). Any other ideas :-) , mom to (10), (8 DS), and Sammy (6) Jan wrote: > > > Do you guys think it might be more age related? > > NO, probably something in the water or the air or is it to do with moon > cycles maybe a blue moon is hovering!!!!! > > Isn't it great when little things we take for granted click for our kids - > hope for everyone that this achievement keeps on going. > > Keep smiling > > Jan, mother of Trent 22yo w/DS from the LandDownUnder > >

We asked him today if he wanted to get his hair cut again and he emphatically said " NO! " Hopefully he will when the time comes. Maybe it is an age thing with Karrie getting to want to look good for the guys lol! For us maybe it was a fluke, I hope not

Guest guest
We too have mastered the haircut! The last 2 visits he's sat in the chair all by himself, before he'd sit in my lap. Now the dentist is still a struggle, we went just a couple of weeks ago, first time for him sitting in the dental chair and laying back, he had a death grip on my hand, still has not had a cleaning. Only checking the teeth and X-rays. I hope he'll have a cleaning sometime soon. Thanks for the encouraging news! Guest guest
when Nic was younger we went every 4 months. Nic had a seizure issue when he was 2. He was put on Depekote which meant we needed blood drawn every 3-4 months. After a while, he was fine getting stuck. He wasn't off the meds until he was 4. Now it's just the once a year for thyroid check.
