Hi Kathy,

My son, , was just diagnosed with Hypothyroidism a couple of months

ago. He's currently taking synthroid and it's amazing the difference it's made

in him.

He had always been on the high side for his TSH levels but never enough to

concern the docs.

At the start of 2006, I noticed more symptoms - he seemed exhausted after

everything he did. He was so lethargic, super dry skin, constipated, etc...

We went to see the Pediatric Endocrinologist who, based on his labs, wasn't

very concerned at first. Once I explained his symptoms he and the neuro ped

decided checking his anti-thyroid anitbodies was a good idea. They were off the

charts -sky high. He was started on synthroid and I saw changes within the

first week.

We also found out he was very " backed up " and started a prescription laxative

called miralax. By the time he was cleared up and and had the synthroid running

through his body he started making huge strides. His speech has increased so

much in the past two months AND he knows his ABC's upper and lower case now! He

actually said a sentence yesterday at school, " I have 7 chips. " I've never

heard him say more that two words together!

Ask the endo doc to run the anti-thyroid antibody test, you'll know 100% if

she's got hypothyroidism then.

And no, I woudn't say is hyper from the meds at all. He just has the

proper amount of energy now - it's a good thing.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Subject: has higher TSH

Hi everyone. , almost 13, has been having her thyroid checked yearly.

When she was around 6 she had a above normal range test and she has been

having it tested. As fra as I knew it had always been within normal range.

She had it tested recently and it was at 8.5. Apparently normal is around 5.

She has to go to a pediatric endocrinologist soon. Can anyone tell me what

to expect at the initial visit. She has been a bit less active and has

gained more weight this year than she has in any other year. However, she is

not overweight. Will meds make her hyperactive, give her more energy???

Kathy
