hi everyone!

today we hit the beach and it was so glorious to beat the heat and swim in

the lake.

i made sure that i did alot of kicking in the water to workout my legs.

after i swam for the last time this evening, i sort of staggered on the

beach a bit when i got out because my legs felt kind of like jelly....heh heh.

it was 10pm by the time i got the kids into bed and it is so easy for me to

blow off my workout when it is that late at night. but i decided that i

would be mad tomorrow if i did that, so i got up and did the strength

circuits from tom holland's 'abs diet' workout (i also did the cardio

warmup and stretching cooldown). you may recall that i did the abs

segments from this dvd yesterday.

happily the strength training segments were harder than the abs

segments. like the abs segments, the strength segments progress from

beginner to intermediate to advanced. each segment is 10 mins or so and

exercises for both the upper body and lower body are completed. while tom

does only does 10-12 reps of each exercise in each segment, you will have

done 3 sets if you do all of the segments together. i enjoyed all of the

segments and their progression ... i do like starting off with the easy

stuff and progressing to harder and harder exercises during a

workout. also, tom does a good stretch for the muscle just worked before

moving onto the next exercise. so, because there is only one set of 12

reps (or so) per exercise in each segment, and because of all of the

stretching/recovery time, you can go heavy on the weights. :) it

appeared that tom used one set of dumbells for everything... but i used 3

sets of weights for the various muscles worked.

tom is very pleasant and has a great body and is kind of cute. he

demonstrates one rep of each exercise before having you join in. with him

are two women... one is wearing pig-tails and is on the cover of a

'quick-fix' workout (could be the stability ball one with keli roberts....

but strangely, this girl is not actually in that workout, she is just on

the cover). the music is a fast electronic/techno beat and he uses that

beat to knock off the reps. it is challenging to do some of the advanced

exercises with heavy weight at that fast pace. and in the advanced

segment, tom combines the upper and lower body exercises to make things

harder.

the next time that i do this workout i will do the full hour of strength

and ab circuits together, alternating. i think that will be a really good

workout. and i will have to see what other workouts tom holland has done.

:*carolyn.
