Hello, from Ontario here. I have been a member for a few months but didn't post often, some of youmight remember me. I have been out of touch for the past 6 weeks or so. Ihave been suffering from some really bad insomnia coupled with anxiety, andrelated stomach upsets, like nausea. I just didn't have the energy to readthe posts. According to her I am also suffering from anoverstimulation of the adrenals so I think a relaxing workout like yogawould be benefical as well. I don't want to go on anymore about my personalhealth but just say I am glad to be back. I have such a hard time gettingmotivated to exercise when I am feeling good so it is going to be twice ashard now. I too go through extremely bad bouts of insomnia along with anxiety

problems. I just started to get into

meditating and have found it’s almost a way to “train” your

body to “get some rest”. I’m

still a newbie at it, but I do think it helps….

Naturopath thinks part of my problem is an upsest

sugar and insulin. Guess what helps improve the

cells sensivity to insulin.

EXERCISE! She recommened I do at least 20 minutes

also suffering from an

overstimulation of the adrenals so I think a

relaxing workout like yoga

would be benefical as well. I don't want to go on

health but just say I am glad to be back. I have

such a hard time getting

motivated to exercise when I am feeling good so it

is going to be twice as

hard now. Reading everyone's posts is helpful and

gives me some great ideas

of things to try.

Carolyn: You have mentioned in a couple recent

posts about these subliminal

tapes you are using. I was not reading the posts

for a number of weeks so

missed when you first wrote about these. Could you

fill me in on what

exactly they are and where you got them. Might be

something I am interested

in. Thanks

Stacey:

Have you used any specific meditation CDs that you could recommend? When I went to my meditation seminar, the

instructor basically said you could do meditation as a “guided”

meditation – but also suggested doing it as you put it below – just

set a timer and breathe, let your thoughts drift in and out, etc.

One thing he told me that I’m not

sure if I agree with or not….I found I was meditating lying down, and he

told me it was better to sit upright.

But I find I can’t take deep breaths like I can while lying down ???

So the other day I started it lying down

and then after 5 mins moved into a sitting position.

???

Re:

Hello...back after a long absence

Hi ! I'm Stacey, nice to meet you:)

I have been working on meditation techniques for a

while. It takes a

lot of patience to develop a meditation practice.

Start slow...all the

books I have read about meditation say to

recognize thoughts and let

them go, so you may want to set a timer and go to

a quiet place to sit

for maybe 5 minutes to begin with. The breathing

is difficult at first

but you will learn how to do it! Sometimes I

surprise myself when I am

in a tough situation and I actually take a few

deep breaths and feel

calmed.

Here are the books I have read that have helped

me:

Pema Chodron--Start Where You Are : A Guide to

Compassionate Living

Jon Kabat-Zinn--Wherever You Go, There You Are : Mindfulness

Meditation in Everyday Life--this book is

excellent you can get

cassette tapes to guide you. Highly recommend this

one!!

Sharon Salzberg, ph Goldstein--Insight

Meditation: A Step-By-Step

Course on How to Meditate. Comes with cd's and a

workbook:)

Here is a link to the CD that had been

highly recommended to me on VF - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/9163094886/qid=1119274471/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/104-9129723-8626363?v=glance & s=books & n=507846

I’ve done the first and third

mediation on it – the first one is a good way to “get your feet wet”. It’s 20

minutes in length. The third one is 45

minutes in length – I’ve only done the third meditation once or

twice (due to its length), but one of the times I did it, I fell into such a

deep sleep right afterwards.

I also just went to a meditation seminar

the other weekend which gave me other tips and ideas.

Definitely something that has to be

practiced, even if it’s only 5 minutes a day.

Hi Terri:

Thanks for the encouragement. Any suggestions on

where to start? Did you buy

a tape or something? Even when I am not in

one of my " anxiety episodes " I

would say I am a high strung and easily stressed

person. Something like

meditation or yoga would likley be very benefical

for me. I think I would

find meditating hard. I took a pre-natal yoga

class with my last child.

During the mediation at the end when I was

supposed to be focusing on my

breathing my mind always wandered.... " what

will I have for snack when I get

home....wonder if ER will be good tonight...it is

so cold outside.... " I

found it very hard to " stay in the

moment " Guess that is the part of the

reason for my anxiety, always worried about

" what will be " instead of just

enjoying the " NOW " .

Welcome Back, !

I also can get pretty anxious and depressed at times -

exercise does help, though. I tend to have trouble

relaxing, too, my mind tends to race and it is hard to

quiet down.

Take care and glad to see you again!

Meditation can be

a great way to get through things. That's how I got through the dentist

last week. I just focus my site on a spot on the wall or ceiling

(depending on if I'm laying down or sitting up) and then focus on my breathing

and just breath into that spot on the wall. When I first started I could

only block other stuff out for a minute or two before the other thoughts come

in. Last week, I endured a 3 hour session in the dentists chair without

even acknowleding he was there. My husband thought I passed out, but when

I could quote what they were talking about while I was " out " , he

realized just how deep in the meditation I was. It's awesome! And I

get to do it again tomorrow for my next dentist appointment.
