Guest guest
My DH got a MP3 player for me this Christmas. It's a battery eater ( bout five hours per battery) I am sure .. and he better have.. paid less than or just barely $100 dollars. I will ask him .. it is nice.. easy to use in the fact once I turn it on, it automatically starts playing. I have about 80 songs on it. " Truth is not determined by a majority vote. " -Cardinal ph Ratzinger http://360./rnscarlson ipod or mp3 or something is up this a.m. and tuning to the high heavens. It's been Aerosmith one minute and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer the next. I find it difficult to get my 'groove' going with some of his tunes...lol. I'm not up on the latest music players but saw a child with an ipod yesterday at school and he was happy to show it to me. Such a small thing and he said he could download up to 750 tunes. Got it on Walmart website for over $100.00. Whew...sure is up there in price if you ask me. CD player much cheaper but gawky and cd's get scratched.. Then I get to looking and am amazed at the prices of these things. One hundred or more is cheap. Anybody got suggestions? Sure would hate to pay that price and not be happy with purchase. Double that amount as would have to get two. Guest guest
This is the dilemma I face with , as well. His two brothers have Ipods. My 15yr. old has a $200 one, and we just got the 12 yr. old an IPod Shuffle for $95 at Sams Club for Christmas. I toyed with getting the shuffle for too, but I'm afraid something would happen to it.......like getting stolen from someone at school, since he wears it on the bus everyday like all the other high school kids. still carries around a CD walkman, which is so much bigger. He scratches his CDs too. I think I am going to take the plunge, though, and at least get him the shuffle one......which is only one inch wide and three inches long! He listens to the same songs over and over.....mostly soundtracks from the videos he loves. Since it holds 150 songs, I think that will be plenty for him. The $200 ones hold something like 1000 songs. I was just going to wait a little while to see if the shuffles go down in price, since no one really purchases that kind anymore. My other concern is that with the CD walkman can repeat a song over and over, which he sometimes likes to do......which drives us nuts......and the shuffle won't let you do that. It shuffles the songs continuously, hence its name. But maybe this will break that habit of repitition that our kids tend to fall into. : ) I've never owned an MP3 player, but I think it would be foolish to get one of those, which are only a few dollars cheaper, when IPods are available at a slightly higher cost but are better in sound quality and easy recording capabilities from your computer. Guest guest
I don't know much about iPods. Are the downloads free? If not, there's more $ you need to spend to load it. Guest guest
The downloads from ITunes is .99 a song. But you can also take songs from CDs and download them onto the Ipod at no cost, which is perfect for , since all the songs he likes are on CDs he owns. This is better than having to carry around CDs and switch them everytime you want to hear something different. Much more convenient. I still buy CDs in music stores, because to me I LOVE opening a new CD with the artist's picture and a listing of the songs, etc. I think this joy comes from my childhood, when I would save and save until I could go to a RECORD (now I'm dating myself here!) store and buy a brand new ALBUM! Remember those days? LOL. Jackie --------- ipod or mp3 or something > > > > is up this a.m. and tuning to the high heavens. Guest guest
I've been thinking about doing this also, but know very little about the Ipods and mp3s. Thanks for the mini lesson, it helped me understand some things. Caty is 15 and still listening to BARNEY on a cassette player. She also has a cd player and has some cd's like Kate and 's hits, Princess Diaries soundtracks, etc. She used to like those songs, but has regresses to the purple dinosaur and I don't know why. She will be traveling on the band bus next fall and really don't want the other kids hearing Barney coming from those earphones! They wil really treat her like a baby. Well I digress...my question is....if I can get her listening to her slightly more grownup cds again....I can copy them from my computer to the Ipod, can't I? Or do I have to go to a website to get all music? I'm so confused. Re: ipod or mp3 or something This is the dilemma I face with , as well. His two brothers have Ipods. Guest guest
I understand the Barney thing. doesn't care much for Barney anymore but there was a time when Barney ruled. He turned me against Barney in a big way...lol He loves the soundtrack music to O' Brother. I do too but not to the extent he does. He seems to like alot of different music and as far as it being the latest tunes he doesn't care either way. We were sitting at a red light a few summers back and it was a hot July day and he and I were tuning Bob Seger's rendention of " The Little Drummer Boy. " He likes his music loud so we got some stares for sure. hee hee I will admit though the Christmas cd did end up missing somewhere along the way that summer. :-) Particularly since Drummer Boy and Rudolph were chosen over and over and over. " Dang son...let's listen to Jingle Bells or Frosty or something. " We both enjoyed some Bob Seger and Eagles yesterday while cruising away some time before picking up brother at school. Kid at school yesterday was listening to rap music. None for me...thanks. Since I have two boys not sure what girls like to listen to. That sounded funny. Reminds me of the time Tyler remarked that I wasn't a girl...I was a mom. hee hee Anyhoo...does Caty like any particular movies that have music soundtrack? Nickleodeon (sp?) advertises kids/teen music...KidzBop9 or something. Sorry not much help. Kid at school tells me you can put cd music on ipod. That's good. Could get it off computer too. Barb (who is making Tyler try my newly made soy hand lotion in the Estee Lauder scent before I'll let him go online and play games. hee hee Doesn't want to smell like a girl.) Guest guest
Battery life is waaaaaaaaaaaay better with an Ipod than what a CD walkman and MP3 player is. Guest guest
Yes, I remember those days, and also love to buy CD's. One of the problems with downloading only that one song the radio stations have decided to play, is just that. Many time my favorite songs have turned out to be the ones that haven't received the radio play time. Sharon ipod or mp3 or something > > > > is up this a.m. and tuning to the high heavens. Guest guest
Wow, I also turned against Barney big time. Every now and then mentions Barney, and when we go to the dentist, they have a Barney stuffed toy, and I gladly let hold it then as it seems to help her greatly. is 14, she has the Kids Bop CD's, and the Radio Disney CD's. She alternates listening to all of them. She also loves (loves I tell you) the Grease soundtrack. She listens to Jimmy Buffett, mainly because I put my foot down and say " no, it's my turn to listen to my music " , and what ever other artist I am in the mood for. But her fav, her all time fav is son. She has both of her CD's, and when the wear out I will gladly buy her more. Sharon H. Guest guest
What exactly do you mean? iPods are the same thing as an MP3, they are both devices that read digital audio files from a hard drive. The iPods are considerably more expensive though. We bought a Zen for my son for Christmas, and we got the dock, player and speakers for less than the iPod itself. Alas, it went through the laundry last week, and is dead as a doornail. That is something to think about...you would surely notice a CD player in their pocket. Those mp3's are TINY! Not to mention they have too darn many pockets on their pants these days! I've never owned an MP3 player, but I think it would be foolish to get one of those, which are only a few dollars cheaper, when IPods are available at a slightly higher cost but are better in sound quality and easy recording capabilities from your computer. Guest guest
I'm not technologically savvy by any means, but friends of ours had an MP3 and switched to the Ipods because they said it was easier to use and could hold more music. Next year I'm sure it will be something other than Ipods. But when we were shopping at Christmas, the MP3s were only about $20 cheaper than an Ipod shuffle. At least will Apple you know you are getting good quality sound and my boys like being able to share their libraries, which you can't do with an MP3 because it is formatted a little differently than the Ipods, from what our friends told us. Guest guest
The Ipod in all of its forms is just a really good MP3 player. " MP3 " came about as little stick sized gizmos that you could download music to, the Ipod is just one of the best versions of an MP3 player that has come out. The Zen is even better, in my opinion, in that there is no hard drive and no ability to jostle moving parts, it is flash driven. Guest guest
We download music for free, or forgotten how we do it, but just transfer from the CD to the Computer to the MP3, (If you need to know how we download our music will check out the computer and let you know, it is one of those things I know the kids have done and just keep pressing and clicking until I work it out.) Jan, mother of Trent 21yo w/DS from the LandDownUnder Re: ipod or mp3 or something I don't know much about iPods. Are the downloads free? If not, there's more $ you need to spend to load it. Guest guest
....I can copy them from my computer to the Ipod, can't I? Or do I have to go to a website to get all music? I'm so confused. Yes, you can copy the songs from your computer to the Ipod or if you don't have the song you can download load it from a website. As to Caty still listening to Barney, wouldn't worry about it too much - Trent is 21 and still loves the Wiggles, we have tried to discourage it by hiding all videos/cassettes but now will find them on TV. Then again, he is well into Robbie , which I am listening to at the moment extremely loudly through walls/closed doors. I don't think the typical kids will really bother about her listening to Barney most will enjoy joining in and 'going back in time'. Only the nasty ones will make anything of it, and the others will soon jump on them. Keep smiling Jan, mother of Trent 21yo w/DS from the LandDownUnder Who for some reason this morning can't type - so frustrating - maybe I should blame the keyboard! A good excuse to go shopping and buy another one. LOL
Guest guest
I totally remember those day! I used to save up to buy my 45s and I had a little blue and white box to keep them in. But up to date- I got a MP3 player for xmas which was like a samsung for about $170. saved all his xmas money and bought one himself. Then they downloaded their CDs onto the MP3s. I traveled one weekend and borrowed 's (we like the same music) and it was very cool. What I dont like is that it is very isolating. I like listening to my cds in the car, with evryone else, only now, they are all listening to their MP3s! LOL
Guest guest
We have 4 mp3 players in our household of 5 people. My DH bought them for us all for Christmas, and being the " techy " that he is, did a lot of research into which one would be the best option in terms of price, performance, and ease of use. We ended up with the Sandisk E140 and I have put a couple of links below so you can go and have a look at them. The epinions site is great because you can look at customer reviews and price etc. My DH chose this particular one because it's pretty much " plug and play " and " drag and drop " ie: you can plug it into your USB port on your computer and then just drag and drop your music files onto it. Our 14yr old daughter has already told us that her Sandisk is much easier to use than the complicated sytems required by her friend's iPod's.... Hope this helps... I know that we are really enjoying not having to listen to Duff ('s favourite CD) for the millionth time, although we do still have to listen to her singing along in the car... http://www.epinions.com/MP3_and_Digital_Media_Players www.sandisk.com With regards in Sydney, Australia wife to Tony, mother of (14yrs), (13yrs in less than a month, DS), and Greg (10yrs) _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Barbara Dillon Sent: Saturday, 18 February 2006 2:08 AM Subject: ipod or mp3 or something is up this a.m. and tuning to the high heavens. Guest guest
Oh, you are right. We are all being scammed and not only by Apple........how about all the " new " game systems that come out year after year sucking our kids in! I have only ever bought one system for my kids.....Playstation 2. I told them I will never buy them another, nor will another one cross our threshold. Talk about ripping people off! My kids rarely touch it anymore. Guest guest
-------------- Original message ---------------------- From: " " <tonjen@...> Some mp3 playersl use aa or aaa batteries , which is nice if you carry a spare battery. Spend the money on rechargeable batteries, it is well worth it. If you are going to be using your mp3 under extreme conditions (jogging, tennis) you may want to check in to a flash drive as it will not skip. Make sure to get one that is rugged enough for the conditions that you are going to expose it to. I think they are great, all that music in such a little device, great for long plane rides. Guest guest
If you right click on your desktop, you will see NEW, then the scrool arrow takes you to choices, choose FOLDER, then right click THAT and rename it MOMS MUSIC. You can save your music in that folder, and have another for her. Re: ipod or mp3 or something One more question since I'm learning so much from you all.....
