Guest guest
Hi All I would like to know how one goes about making citrus zest. Also how to dry citrus peels without them going brown. If I want to add citrus peel to my soap, do I use fresh peels chopped up or dried, ground peels? TIA Christa
Guest guest
You can buy Lemon & Orange flakes in some grocery stores in the spice area. I will warn you the one bottle I seen was $10 for about 2 oz.! This is what I soak in water (about an hour), then put thru the blender to make it really fine mush for soap. Otherwise it is scratchy. Do you have a dehydrator? If so, you can dry your peels in it. They turn dark for me, but not brown. If you don't have one you can buy orange peel at most health food stores, or, if you are close enough that the shipping won't cramp your pocket book a herbal distributor will have them. I had read -some where- that orange peel in soap will help with foot odor. HTH Karyn Hi All I would like to know how one goes about making citrus zest. Guest guest
i have used the dried ones you buy in the spice isle. they stay orange in soap. i tried using them in a scrub no deal they got soft and mushy no scrubby action there! i guess i should have figured. in te soap it left a barely noticable exfoliation action. very mild i suppose is the word have a wonderful day-tamika

Guest guest
I've added a small amt. of grated fresh lemon peel to some of my bath salt scrubs. Ummm.......for those that love fresh zing citrus scents, this was great. Cate
Guest guest
The colored part of the citrus rind is the zest. Get a potato peeler and peel the rind but be careful that you don't get any of the white part that is next to the fruit on the zest, this will make thin strips or you can get an old fashioned knuckle buster grater and grate the rind to have a fine powdery zest if you want to dry it. Guest guest
I wouldn't put the seeds in unless I were drinking it immediately; seeds turn bitter over time. For that matter, I wouldn't use the peel at all unless I were to zest the colored part. citrus peel I heard Wolfe today comment that we should never put grapefruit or orange peel/seeds in our smoothies. He said, though, we can use lemon peel and lime peel and seeds in smoothies. ..

Guest guest
LeeAnn, I listened to it twice, and I’m still not sure I understand it well enough to say why. He’s talking about unbalanced hormones causing disorders and foods that either promote the bad hormone or tend to control it’s bad effects. He said the citrus is toxic that it’s used in Chinese medicine but it has been treated. He mentioned citrus oil and I know it’s extremely toxic and my local essential store is very careful who they sell it to and why. Apparently the lemon and lime don’t encourage the bad hormones and aren’t toxic. I just had 3 blood tests, it was thought I must have bone malignancy. All it turned out to be is all my hormones are low and out of balance. Nothing is wrong but the hormones are starting to make things look very wrong. I go tomorrow for final testing and then start with a holistic dr in March to get their levels raised and balanced. So listening to Wolfe was interesting; apparently a lot of people are having hormonal issues today.
