That's a wonderful account, Davinna and just points up the fact that it's near impossible to get people to change their way of eating unless the changes are actually delicious. If I'm not mistaken, this is Lea Ann's own sales technique--I think she concentrates only on healthful recipes so that potential customers can taste how good healthful food can be.

Keep it up! Preparing food is SO much more fun and rewarding if it's a joint effort. This could start a tradition that your daughter might well continue with her own children when the time comes. :)

I am soooooo impressed!

So, I got my first VitaMix on this past Friday. I have loved it since the moment that it arrived. I have had nothing but healthy food since it arrived. My husband and I are both overweight with some pretty nasty stuff in our family histories. Both sides have cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc and on Friday of this week, I have an appointment with a surgeon to give my gallbladder an eviction notice. DH and I are both enjoying a variety of healthy recipes including various soups and smoothies with lots more veggies slipped in here and there. Well, since my VM arrived, I have enjoyed eating again without any pain (for the first time in WEEKS!). Now, having said all of this, my 7 year old DD and I are butting heads over these changes. The only thing that I have been able to get her to eat is fruit and ice cream and she sort of enjoyed the chicken potato spinach soup the other night. Tonight, though was a different story. I made a yummy VM marinara sauce and served it over whole grain pasta. She is so used to me just opening up a jar of spaghetti sauce that she was very skeptical. She told me that she did not know that spaghetti sauce had carrots in it. I told her that the home made kind does. She loved it so much that she actually went back for seconds tonight. Then for the first time since the VM arrived, tonight she was actually interested in helping me make a smoothie. We made a pretty big one with strawberries and blueberries and grape juice (all her choices) after we both drank ours, we added a banana and some kale to it and put it in the fridge for my DH's breakfast (since he leaves for work an hour before she and I get up in the mornings). I think we might be making progress with my little junk food addict :)

Davinna, that is wonderful! May I suggest ENCOURAGING your little junk food

junkie to eat things like ice cream, FOR BREAKFAST?? That usually turns their

heads! I started giving my daughter (now 16) ice cream for breakfast when she

was about 4. Little did she know it was HEALTHY ice cream-pumpkin or squash

based, agave nectar sweetened, and packed with nutrition! I made her popsicles

out of healthy smoothies, and other yummy " junk " food. As she got older, I let

her in on my dirty little secret, and she and I would devise " junk " foods

together-all totally healthy, good for a growing body, and packed full of all

good stuff-no bad stuff! I am pleased to report that my now 16 year old

daughter is as adept at churning out goodies in the VM as I am, and now she

CHOOSES to eat healthy (always has, but glad still so, since now she is out with

her friends more) She thinks nothing of hanging out with her friends at a local

fast food place, with her own veggie/fruit smoothie in her special cup (looks

like a throw away coffee cup, but is really a very nice porcelain mug, lol) She

will pop home and mix up a treat to take with her-while her friends are

swallowing down calorie laden garbage, she enjoys her smoothie! I won't be a

bit surprised to see your little one jump on board with this, especially if you

encourage her to help you find things she loves! Ice cream and popsicles

usually work a charm, for starters! I had to laugh as my daughter got older,

she would say " throw a carrot and spinach leaf in there, let's see how that

tastes " ! You gotta love that!!

Just make some gradual changes if too many changes are producing problems with your family. My family is complaining too. But we are eating salads every night now, and veggies. Less potatoes. I make the homemade ice creams for treats. They don't mind that. My 23 yr old doesn't LIKE banana in her smoothie. Grrrr. I love banana in my smoothie. I always loved banana. I give both girls a small glass and I take a large one.

They don't mind the veggie in there if they can't taste it. One day it was a bit strong for our beginner tastebuds.

It actually tastes a bit different every time because any variance in fruit or veggie, will make a bit different smoothie.

One of these days I will be moving on to vegetable soups.

Boy thats what got me. I didn't see Lea Anne's demonstration, but someone else here in my town, and he had diabetes and was overweight. His soup and smoothie was so good. I am trying to overcome my own health issues, and decided this is what I need. I was so thankful my hubby let me get one. I had one 15 years ago and let it go. It wasn't time I guess. I got it for the grinding wheat and it was a bit course for my liking and I got a regular wheat grinder instead. One thing that really helps now is all the how to videos on you tube and websites. If I had that 15 years ago, I would have kept it. This one is a better one anyhow .

It's a good way to pitch the machine and illustrates just how versatile it is (which is why it's in so many restaurants as well). You can go healthful and/or gourmet, be everyone's favorite bartender, and even a soda jerk if you're so inclined--no need to restrict yourself to one way of eating what you prepare with it unless you have health or other dietary restrictions. It really does live up to its claims and almost the only limits on how it can be used are those imposed by the owner.

I did not see one of Lea Anne's demonstrations either but we went to eat supper with some friends across town one weekend and she made us a WONDERFUL green (although purple in color) smoothie and we got to talking about health problems that she has been able to overcome and health problems that we have in our family as well.  I knew then that I had to get one!

You can even julienne some zucchini to use instead of pasta.

I have a spiral cutter that will slice veggies into long strands to be used like pasta. Since I don't eat wheat pasta, it comes in very handy! Here is a link to the one like mine:http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.aol_refer.false.tpl.detail.msn_refer.false.item.K7702.ref.BV1? It is another gadget that I adore, and use often!

I love that spiralizer. I have it too. Vita-mix has a picture on the front of

the raw/vegan/vegetarian recipe book of zucchini that was spiralized. You can

see it at the Vita-mix site: http://bit.ly/fYRjBX

I run the zucchini under some regular hot water that's under 118 degrees for

just a minute or two to warm it up and then dry it with a towel and put the

sauce on it. It's a great raw food meal if you are trying to incorporate more of

those. It doesn't satisfy the need for carbs though.

I don't think any of the contenders for the title here would mind

me just opening up a jar of spaghetti sauce that she was very

skeptical.  She told me that she did not know that spaghetti sauce had

carrots in it.  I told her that the home made kind does.  She loved it

so much that she actually went back for seconds tonight.  Then for the

first time since the VM arrived, tonight she was actually interested in

helping me make a smoothie.  We made a pretty big one with strawberries

and blueberries and grape juice (all her choices) after we both drank

ours, we added a banana and some kale to it and put it in the fridge

for my DH's breakfast (since he leaves for work an hour before she and

I get up in the mornings).  I think we might be making progress with my

little junk food addict :)

I don't think any of the contenders for the title here would mind

sharing it.

Re: I am soooooo impressed!

I just watched the video link I just sent for the spiral veggie

cutter-they mention VITAMIX in the video for it!  Cool.

So, I got my first VitaMix on this past Friday.  I have loved it since

the moment that it arrived.  I have had nothing but healthy food since

it arrived.  My husband and I are both overweight with some pretty

nasty stuff in our family histories.  Both sides have cancer, heart

disease, diabetes, etc and on Friday of this week, I have an

appointment with a surgeon to give my gallbladder an eviction notice.

DH and I are both enjoying a variety of healthy recipes including

various soups and smoothies with lots more veggies slipped in here and

there.  Well, since my VM arrived, I have enjoyed eating again without

any pain (for the first time in WEEKS!).  Now, having said all of this,

my 7 year old DD and I are butting heads over these changes.  The only

thing that I have been able to get her to eat is fruit and ice cream

and she sort of enjoyed the chicken potato spinach soup the other

night.  Tonight, though was a different story. & nbsp; I made a yummy VM

marinara sauce and served it over whole grain pasta.  She is so used to

Hey, y'all can HAVE the tiara. My addiction to gadgets is something I

try to keep under wraps, especially since even though I tend not to

want things " just to have them, " what I want is virtually ALWAYS

expensive (except, come to think of it, my exceptional deal of a crêpe

pan). I justify this by reminding myself that it'll last forever

(unlike, say, me). Spectacular omelette, anyone? (God, I love that

omelette pan.)

I saw that too! I was looking for a good spiral cutter - since you endorse it and the price is right, I'm going to get one!
