No, you are NOT alone-we should perhaps start a 12 step program! I am so fond

of my frozen cubes ready to have on hand of various purees, juices, blends, etc.

that I bought a second fridge, then a deep freeze, then another deep freeze! It

is just me and my daughter living here and we have 4 contraptions for storing

things ready for the Vitamix! Perhaps I had better lead the meetings? No,

guess not...sounds like I am the one that needs the most help, perhaps

inpatient.

>

> Hoarding. Is it one of the possible deleterious effects of daily smoothies? I

" stock up " on smoothie ingredients (organic frozen fruit, mostly, but also

greens). My freezer is stocked (read: bursting), yet I still buy a few more bags

of fruit when I'm at the store and yes, I definitely need more greens. If my

stock gets low, I get all twitchy. :-) I have so many greens right now, it's

ridiculous! Green Smoothies for everyone!! Am I alone in this? :-)Amber

Not only is my freezer bulging simple physics keeps me in check somewhat--I have no more room. I'd be doing a lot more "cubing" if I had more room--non-newbies here are aware of my contempt for simple ice as a freezing agent for smoothies.

In all fairness, I'm a big fan of freezing anyway and also store things like nuts, grains, and flour in the freezer.

I just got my Vitamix about a week and a half ago and I'm already stressing

about not having enough fruit and greens for my smoothies. I now have more fruit

and veggies in my house than I EVER have and yet it's just not enough. Why am I

constantly on the lookout for more smoothie ingredients? I would like to attend

this 12 step program before I get out of hand. I do have a deep freeze in my

garage though so I have room to grow - just in case. ;)

Well I can't bring myself to buy strawberries right now cause I figure they are gross. ;-)

But I'm already trying to figure how much I'll have to buy next summer to fill the freezer!!

Oh, I usually buy the commercial stuff. That's not to say that I don't sometimes freeze fresh produce, just that it's not the norm for me. Wyler's has wonderful frozen wild blueberries and Cascade has some nice organic stuff--quite expensive, though.

Oh, you are in the same zone as me!!! Strawberries are a piece of cake, and yes, you can use the fabric bags, hanging baskets, pots to grow upside down, or a host of other ideas. I have some polly bags that you can just hang from anywhere, with strawberries poking out little pre cut holes-so you can grow six plants or so per bag! I grow the alpines, but I also have wild strawberries growing under my deck-hard to pick those boogers, but that's what kids are for!

Hey , Do you think feed bags (as in horse pellets) would work for planting and hanging? Yes, they work beautifully! Feed bags will work if you just fill them with soil, lay them on the ground, and cut X holes across the top part. You can grow tons of things in them, including potatoes and such. (I assume you mean 50 pound bags)? If they are fabric type, they will last a couple of seasons. If they are poly, usually only one. You can also fill them with sand and make a quickie "raised bed" garden out of them by just laying them end to end in a square and filling the square with soil. I get 50 pounds sacks of grain, and reuse those, and I also get the bags that coffee beans come in from a friend that owns a coffee shop-they all work great.

LOL, Stacey-don't worry. All of my neighbors thought I had totally flipped when I started growing everything in flipped over tables, inverted bookcases, hanging planters with the plants growing upside down, and using funeral baskets that hold sprays of flowers for vining peas and beans. NOW, they all come flocking around every season to see what the newest wacky planters will be, lol. I actually have people that drive from three counties over to see my gardens every year. When I ended up in a wheelchair, I was DETERMINED that I would find a way to still garden, so I had to get creative. Now, it's more of a mission to see what I can make work, lol. One year I did vertical gardening on a small scale, this year I am going bonkers with it, both indoors and out.

I had so much stuff in the freezer I had to store my vitamix ice

cream outside with my mixed greens.

Freezer door was held shut with some duct tape as there was so much

stuff in there it wouldn't stay closed.

If I had my own place I would.  I live in an apt.

A small hotel room is about the same floorplan.

But hey the rent is cheap enough so I can get a new vitamix.

I have so many greens right now, it's

Well Stacey, I was sure hoping they would work. There are 2 things I have an abundance of..... Feed bags and horse manure. Lol. In youth we learn, in age we understand. On Feb 25, 2011, at 6:48 PM, asummers asummers <asummers@...> wrote:

I just got my Vitamix about a week and a half ago and I'm already stressing about not having enough fruit and greens for my smoothies. I now have more fruit and veggies in my house than I EVER have and yet it's just not enough. Why am I constantly on the lookout for more smoothie ingredients? I would like to attend this 12 step program before I get out of hand. I do have a deep freeze in my garage though so I have room to grow - just in case. ;)

I'm SO envious (of the horses, not of the manure). I LOVE to ride and wish I could afford to do it better. I had a mounted cop tell me that he really likes when people like me stop and pet the horses because it has a calming effect on them. Granted, you have the occasional fellow who decides to open a bag of tortilla chips you picked up at Whole Foods or who poaches a stroller-bound toddler's french fries but that's part of their charm, isn't it? :(=)

I still remember being kissed by a police horse in Times Square not long after I moved to NYC. I just love horses.
