Guest guest
Hi Folks! Does anyone have a recipe for Gel Candles? All of the recipes that I have seen so far call for Mineral Oil and Thermoplastic resin. Is there another way to make them? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! alisha ***************************************************************** http://welcome.to/kundalini ICQ# 2851034 " ..I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then. Guest guest
Thanks for the tip on the gel candles. I have heard that you are to use the wicks that are zinc. I found a collection of great suppliers online. I am going to create some for all types of states and cities. Like the theme for a TX gel candle could include a cowboy embed, with some sort of horse or cactus.
Guest guest
Whoever made that gel candle that " caught fire " was a fool, and didn't knwo what she was doing. Gel candles are like any other candle, and take a little care both in making them, and burning them.............Holly
Guest guest
This was sent to me so I thought I'd better pass it on. I do not make candles so I know nothing about this but I'm sure a lot of you out there do. Now I don't know whether to take this as the gospel truth, but something to look out for.:0) Sandy > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >>I thought everyone should read this... > > > > >> > > > > >> > > > > >>I don't know if any of you use the gel candles but just in case..... > > > > >> > > > > >> > > > > >>Gel Candles (happened in Grand Prairie) > > > > >> > > > > >>A friend had a terrible thing happen to her and her family last > week, > > > > >>and I wanted to share it with all of you so that you could be warned > > and > > > > >>warn your friends and family as well. > > > > >> > > > > >>She had a gel candle burning in her bathroom...it exploded and > caught > > > > >>her house on fire...the house burned down and they have lost > > everything. > > > > >>The fire Marshall told her that this is not the first incident where > a > > > > >>gel candle has exploded and caused a fire. > > > > >>He said that the gel builds up a gas, and often times it explodes > and > > > > >>sets fire to the room it is in, which is what happened to her. > > > > >>The fire was so hot it melted the smoke alarm, and they didn't > > discover > > > > >>the fire until there was an explosion, which was her toilet blowing > > up, > > > > >>and then it was too late...the entire upstairs was engulfed in > flames. > > > > >>Smoke damage and water damage have destroyed what wasn't destroyed > by > > > > >>fire. > > > > >> > > > > >>I know that there are friends that I don't have on this > > list.....please > > > > >>pass this along to anyone I missed. > > > > >>I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else. > > > > >>Just a friendly warning to all of you about the use of gel candles > > left > > > > >>unattended. > > > > >> > > > > >>Take care! Guest guest
I do know that careless use of candles of any kind can cause such problems. Even wax candles in a jar left unattended can cause the jar to break when they are burned down to low. I dont know if this is what is meant by exploded. Do they mean the gel itself burst in to flames from the gas or gass build up and cause the jar to break? I haven't heard of the gas situation but with your permission i would like to forward this to a gel manufacturer for an opinion. It is important to know as the person selling the candle could be held responsible also. katherine On Wed, 7 Nov 2001 16:36:49 -0800, wrote: > This was sent to me so I thought I'd better pass it on. Guest guest
the gel candle was originally made and prepared to aid in the Y2K preparation from Penrelco. it is made of mineral oil and CP9000 resin. it is mixed together and allowed to sit at room temp for about hour then it is cooked for about an hour at steady 200- 210 degrees F or until it has the consistency of corn syrup. gel burns 10 time longer then wax that is why it was called the Y2K candle. the gel does not catch on fire. it melts around the wick. if fragrance is added then one would have to know the flash point of the fragrance as gel gets very hot just like wax fragrance should not exceed more then 3%. it has not been known for gel to form a gas because of the cooking process and high temps it has to endure to become a gel. gel like wax has to be put in the proper casing such as thick glass or something that can take extreme heat for a period of time. other wise the casing .. like thin glass will pop or break. and they didn't > > discover > > > > >>the fire until there was an explosion, which was her toilet blowing > > up, I do have a question to ask here do toilets filled with water explodes? the chosen03
Guest guest
My sister sent me that e-mail last week and I stopped making gel candles. I have never had one explode but I can not afford a lawsuit right now. could you please let me know if this could happen or not when you find out.
