Wow that is the perfect story about how we are all different. I get so

frustrated at all the information that is coming down these days, it can make

you crazy trying to figure out what to eat. Me I too would love to be

vegetarian but my bod does not let me. I get " deficient " (acupuncturist) and

tired if I don't have some meat now and then. I don't do well on low carb

either my kidneys don't like that much. We all have to figure out what works

for us individually in my opinion. So glad this is working for you.

:D

I am just the opposite. I would LOVE to be able to have some meat, fish, or

poultry, but my kidneys just won't process it. I can have a small piece of fish

if I catch it in my local waters, but that doesn't happen too often. Any farmed

fish or fish from a store is treated with antimicrobials that I react to, so

catching it is my hope-happens only once or twice a year, despite my best

efforts, lol.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhh, send him on, Lea Ann!! The fishing around here is fabulous...and I live right by one of the best spots, but getting to the bank in a wheelchair is a challenge, lol. I keep threatening to turn my chair into a hydroplane...

One of these days I'm going to come visit and I'll be sure to bring Dean - perhaps we should plan for a visit this summer.

I took the test yesterday, and I also came out as a fast oxidizer! I am having at least three green smoothies a day, and feeling great - but that isn't all I'm eating. In fact, I especially crave beef - I ate roast beef several times a week last week. Unfortunately, not good, grass fed beef. I can't get my hands on any right now, so that's that. When I go on the Fast, I don't do well by the end ... I seem to be great with all the vegetables I want, as long as I get some animal protein too.

I find it interesting that we can change our metabolic type though ... definitely want to look more at this.

Thanks!

Deb

Hey Deb,

I've got to share something that has recently ROCKED my world! And I'm going to have to tell a long story to do it...

Most of my life I have been practically obsessed with "proper diet" and trying to eat as healthy as possible. I even did a 3 day water fast at the age of 14 and was a regular at Weight Watchers with my mother when I was in Jr High (my FB friends can imagine why when they see the picture of young, chubby Lea Ann on ee - my horse). My heart REALLY wants to be a Vegetarian (and I actually love veggies). I totally want nothing to have to die so that I may live. I WANT to feel good on a vegetarian diet. And the conventional wisdom regarding what foods are alkalizing and what foods are acidifying indicates that if you eat meat products (or lots of other forms of protein) you will acidify your body, so. All of this was said to set the stage for my story...

After my first child was born I became a vegetarian and started raising him as such. I managed to eat this way for 3 years, but never felt really good. I should have considering I was eating "so healthy" all of my carbs were whole grains and starchy veggies - no cookies, chips, or refined sugar, lots of veggies, proper "combining" of foods to get all of the amino acids in a "complete protein (although now that has been proven to not be necessary). Then came my first crash. I went from exercising at a Curves franchise 5 days a week, and running 4 miles a day if I weren't at Curves to being completely bed ridden over night. I came down with a sinus infection and NEVER recovered. For 7 years I survived on will power alone. Then I started drinking Green Smoothies daily and got off of wheat and sugar and I felt so good that I was able to quit my daily naps and had enough energy to become a Vitamix

demonstrator. Then about a year and a half ago I tried the 80/10/10 diet and lasted on that for about 6 months then had another severe crash. I've been recovering from that crash ever since and I have good days and bad. Shows really wipe me out and I'm struggling with my crashed adrenals and hypothyroid condition.

Well, about 2 days ago I took the Metabolic Typing test https://www.metabolictypingonline.com/Default.aspx and have been eating more high purine meats, confining my veggies to the ones on the list of "allowed foods" and in general following the recommendations. Before I began eating this way (and all of my life really) I am constantly starving. I can finish a meal and 1/2 hour later be hungry again. Well, turns out that is typical of "fast oxidizers" who eat too many carbs (even healthy fruits and veggies!) for their type. The first day I was AMAZED that lunch time rolled around and passed and I forgot about eating until I saw the clock! And I couldn't believe that this morning when I woke up, I was putzing around doing things before I realized that I hadn't drug myself to the pantry FIRST THING after waking for my cup

of half decaf coffee! Used to be that I could not function until that cup of coffee "kicked in".

I am very hopeful that I will just get better and better. They say that your metabolic type will shift in the beginning (until your body reaches and reveals its true metabolic state) and that you should re-test every 6-8 weeks until you become stable. I am hoping that I shift more towards a "mixed" type so I can include more fruits and veggies in my list of "allowed" foods - my current list is minimal, but I'm just focusing on eating ALL of the fruits and veggies that I am allowed.

Anyway, that was long way of responding to your query about meat and how it affects the acid/alkaline balance. Turns out that for fast oxidizers meat actually DOES help alkalize us while for a slow oxidizer meat would turn them more acidic.

http://www.bloodph.com/articles/DiabetesCancerWeight.asp

So this wasn't about the Spirulina question, but it does address the acid/alkaline and meat comment. (BTW, I eat grass fed organic from a local source as you indicated you will be too).

Bring it on! Would love to have you! I am renovating my downstairs right now, so it will be a cozy little separate apartment, complete with its own kitchen....and Vitamix, of course! From: Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...>Subject: Re: Re: Metabolic Typing and Alkalizing your body - was spirulina Date: Tuesday, February 22, 2011, 6:39 AM

This is wonderful to hear Lea Ann.  Thanks for sharing it.  I'm so glad you are feeling better.  I'd love another update in another 2-3 weeks to really push me over the edge to buying the test!

So far I've gone 3 days without any of my usual ravenous hunger. Energy is better than before the diet, but not 100% (but its only been 3 days and they just happened to coincide with the worst 3 days of my "cycle") so I am hopeful that I will gain more energy over time.I'll be happy to give you an update in a couple of weeks !I can say that the free Mercola test is awful compared to this test. I wish that I could share my food list with you all so you could see what it's like. It's fairly informative.

Anyhow, the book takes a stance against spirulina. Because it get's it's B12 from bird droppings. Let's just say, I left the spirulina out of my smoothie today. Today I will be researching this issue - but was wondering if anyone on this list has already "been there, done that" - and has anything at all to say about it?

Great that you are improving, Lea Ann! Any reason you can't share your food list with us? I am guessing it is because it is a paid test? I would love some more info about it.

LOL-tiger, how GAUCHE! Leopard is in THIS season!

LOL, I figured it was something like that. I am GLAD you don't want to cheat the company-so many people don't consider that there are many who make their living providing these services. Well, perhaps it won't be a cheat if you share some of the new ways YOU are eating, since those of us who haven't purchased the test (yet) don't know what our type is anyway! I am just curious to know what is working for YOU! Now, what was that password??? I am going to post THE best picture on your facebook page...
