Guest guest
What model do you have? Still have chunks Ok I've had my Vitamix 16+ years but never really experimented with it. I have 1-2 things I make in it and that's it. Tried to make a spinach, apple, cucumber, lemon smoothie this am. I still get chunk. Do I need to cut the fruit up into some smaller pieces? Use less water at first? Thanks

Guest guest
Tony - what model of Vitamix do you have? I wonder if it is working properly? Are you blending on high and using the tamper? How long are you blending for?You "should" have no problem making that drink without chunks... Guest guest
4000 I cut the apple into quarters or less. I probably ran it 30 seconds to 2 min. Even when I made ice cream I had chunks of ice mabe an inch in diameter. Also I'm sure it's been mentioned before. If I'm not following a recipe what order do I put things in? Ice first or last for example? Big items first or last or while it's running. Am I using too much liquid? Thanks Tony
Guest guest
That's why. My first Vita-Mix was a 4000 and while I loved it, I often had chunks. When I upgraded to the 5000, the chunks disappeared (you might want to confirm with ; she recently upgraded from a 4000). Re: Still have chunks What model do you have? 4000. .. Guest guest
I agree with . I was pretty much used to chunks in the 4000, but not so with my 5200. I am quite amazed at the difference in the two machines! I held out on upgrading for a long time, but am glad I did upgrade! You can work around the chunks by using smaller pieces and using the tamper to poke into the corners as you process. From: <kareningotham@...>Subject: Re: Still have chunks Date: Tuesday, February 15, 2011, 11:28 AM That's why. Guest guest
Sounds to me like your machine is no longer working properly - a Vitamix should have NO problem crushing Ice. You can get it refurbished (I think) for $150 and it will be like new. I'd call customer service at 1-800-848-2348 to see if what I just told you is correct (price and if they refurb the 4000 machines).liquids and/or the softest foods on the bottom, harder foods and ice on top.Big items go in based on whether they are soft or hard and before turning the machine on. Use tamper liberally.Too much liquid for ice cream if you are using more than a 1 to 3 ratio of non-frozen to frozen ingredients. Guest guest
I've been holding out on the upgrade but may eventually give in and get a 5200. Guest guest
I think the machine is fine. I didn't have enough ice so they probably were barely hitting the blades since I had soo much liquid. Then again I may have to give in and contact you for a 5200. Guest guest
Tony, I held out for a long time thinking that I needed the stainless container and reverse function more than I needed the see through containers. Our dear finally convinced me to upgrade and I am SOOOOOO glad I did! As you said, you can use the old one for non food goodies or just to play with (mine gets used for compost tea and cosmetic stuff) You won't be sorry about contacting Lea Ann for an upgrade! You can also trade in your old one for credit, I believe! Guest guest
If I may horn in on your reply to Lea Ann, you'll be amazed at the difference in performance, not to mention that the 5000 series machines are a lot more versatile. Guest guest
Well if I play blackjack at $25 a hand it's about 20 winning hands. Of course I'd get a refurb to save some $$$. Looks like I may have to make a trip to the casino soon. Tony Look at it this way Tony... Guest guest
Too bad I couldn't modify my 4000 to take the new containers. It looks like the containers are designed so stuff doesn't get stuck in the corners. I always wondered if there was a huge difference or if it was just a salesperson trying to get me to upgrade. I do like the idea of the variable speed and being able to chop for say salsa. I've been on the fence a long time and it looks like I may jump soon. Guest guest
Yes you can trade the old one for credit, but I've watched many old stainless Vitamix machines go for $150 + $20 shipping on Ebay - a much better deal than the $75 Vitamix gives you. (and you can't do the rebate thing with Vitamix unless you buy retail...Looking at these closed EBay auctions: http://completed.shop.ebay.com/i.html?MA2ShowItems & _trksid=p3286.c0.m283 & _rdc=1 & rt=nc & _fln=1 & _nkw=vitamix+4000 & LH_Complete=1 & guest=1 let's assume that the MOST Tony got for his was the same as the $75 that machine needed a new gasket - he could still get that $75 and buy refurbished rather than new if he wanted. But what if he got more - I saw 3 auctions that closed for more than $200! (and the buyer pays for shipping to boot!)But like Tony said - keeping the old one for almond butter and scratchy things ;-) might work better for him. I just tossed out this info. for other people to keep in mind...
