Guest guest Posted September 23, 2000 Report Share Posted September 23, 2000 Wrapping soap -- the majority of soaps that I make are round, and I use round, fluted-edge coffee filters. I do a lot of rubber stamping, so I decorate the round, flat center of the coffee filter with rubber stamp designs. Then I turn it inside out, place the soap inside (after wrapping the soap in thin plastic wrap), and then go around and fold the filter in a pleated fashion pleat by pleat. That gives it a nice, finished look. The last step is a round label (you can get them at any big office supply store). I print my company information on the label first, and when I stick that over the pleated side of the soap, it's the finishing touch. A lot of people just print out strips on paper on their pc and make cigar-band type ones (with a dot of glue on the back or a round label with ing. listed on it. You can shrink-wrap your bars or just wrap them up in Saran and stretch it around and stick an Avery label on it. I've seen some nice ones done up with very thin wrapping paper and a flower or dried herb glued to the front. I've done lots of different ways. My sister sticks a label on hers and wraps some rafia around it. I've also seen some in shops here, not wrapped at all, just a label stuck on it. Some people like to put theres in a bag and tie with some pretty ribbon, or a box with your label on it (these can get very pricey tho') but it depends. A box would be very nice for a specialty bar. Since I mainly do m & p, I wrap the individual bars in a saran wrap type wrap (I use Sam's choice from Wal-Mart - lots of stretch) and then put the paper " cigar band " around the middle and tape. You could try it on your computer - starting with a label for the 'computer diskette'. If you use the middle square, then one on each side would be the back and sides, and the middle would be the front. Don't be afraid!! Have fun with it! If you do, alot of people go to home publishing, and make bookmarks to go around to middle of the soap. You can put any design on them you wish. It looked really nice. If so, you could do it on your system, save it to disk and take it over to Kinko's or something like that to print out. Could be a little pricy though, if you have three labels on a page - and a page cost ~.99 a piece, that is .33 a band.... I am not familiar with a company that does this - but I am sure that any printing company could. Maybe check with Minute Man. For a fee (and worth it in my opinion), they can make you a 'plate' that has the cigar label on it, and then you call them and let them know to print some more (for when you are running low). But this will get really pricey too.... I think your best bet is to print them at Kinko's or something like that. Guest guest Posted June 24, 2002 Report Share Posted June 24, 2002 Drae, I don't know where you're located, but you could actually create/design your label on your computer, put it on a floppy disc (or maybe a CD) and take it to a local printer to have it printed in color. You would need to find out what program they can use, first, probably, although most use Word or a compatible program nowdays. Places like Kinko's do that, I believe. (Off the top of my head, I can't think of another 'national' - chain type printing business.) If you don't have one of those, there's usually someone in the printing business who can do it for you. However, printing in color may be fairly expensive. I don't know how many labels you are planning on making, but in the long run, it might be more cost effective to purchase a color printer. If you're only going to want a few, then it wouldn't be. There's always the option of a friend who has a color printer, too. Offer to trade soaps for labels or something like that. Find a high school kid who is good on the computer and has the facilities to do it and make him/her an offer. In some high schools, there is a class which does this, even, so you might check there, although it is summer and the kids might not be there. There are always commercial companies that make labels, too, but I think you have to order a 'bazillion' at a time from most of those.
