Guest guest
Boy oh Boy...all I can say is.....what a difference a year makes. We had our parent/teacher conference for Nic today. It went about an hour. Bob and I are extremely impressed with this new teacher (and her 3 aides). She goes above and beyond....she took 2 workbooks that Nic uses and had the whole thing enlarged so it would be easier for him to use. Our progress reports were in a folder, divided (using color coded dividers) into sections: ED, PT, ST,and OT and a section for samples of his work. She gave us a flip book with some of his sight words to use at home. She made a small schedule that she puts on his desk every morning with 5 mandatory things he must do like: Write his full name, then 15 minutes of Edmark (on the computer),then his SRA reading program, then he does his " word machine " ,some math work..then they start on the day. Nic has a very hard time writing so she is going to request an assistive device so he can type his answers. But I did say I wanted to continue working on his writing/fine motor skills. We also amended his IEP to better suit him...... I couldn't even get last years teacher to talk to me let alone all of this. His progress is coming along nicely. we discussed some minor behavioral stuff. They all seem to be able to " read " Nic and know how to handle certain things which may arise. Lately at home, Nic is using the " S " word A LOT (STUPID-not the other s word...) We figured it was just as bad at school but when I asked she said he does mumble it under his breath which they ignore. Once or twice he directed it at a classmate and the art teacher, which then he was punished for. So now, it's completely opposite from last year...all of his behaviors were mainly at school where as now they are at home.. 80( Bob even stopped midway through just to say how nice this meeting was... We had 8 very heated IEPs last year..... Before we left they all said what a " joy " he was to have!!!!!!!!!!! Bob and I actually cracked up laughing. We never heard anything like that or even close to that last year. I cried when we decided to move him another school but now I'm glad we did it. Walking on air today!!!!!!!!!
