Guest guest
Hi , I went to BB's website and it doesn't look like you can buy these individually, but you might be able to on Ebay or call BB and see if they can sell you something individually. These workouts aren't really for beginners; I'd try BB's Slim in 6 series first before moving on to P90X. Hope this helps! Does anyone know if I can just buy individual dvds instead of the whole program??? Power 90X is *very* nicely packaged and marketed. The12 advanced workout dvd's come in one of those cd/dvdcases that is around 6" by 6" big. One of the twobook covers and labels on all the dvd's and dvd casehave elegant photographs of Tony Horton in differentathletic poses that are artistically done, rather likethe dvd covers are for the NYC Ballet workouts. Thesecond book that comes with the series is a detailednutrition guide. You have the option of puchasingspecial Power 90X supplements, drinks, and bars to gowith the workouts and nutrition guide.Did I read any of the books, look closely at thecharts and workout logs? Heck no, I wanted to jumpright in and start working out! I'll do all 12 Power90X workouts over the next 2.5 weeks and after thatrotate them in with my other 300 or so workouts thatare also calling my name..The setting of Tony's gym/studio is a little bit likeCrunch's in that there is an urban feel to it. I likeit! The music is so-so, and reminds me of the slowAlice and Chains song "Down in a Hole". You have theoption of doing the workout to your own music if youlike, but personally I'd rather just move to the samebeat that the tv exercisers are working out to to stayin synch with them. Tony has three exercisers with him, Audra, , andAdam, all of whom are in excellent shape anddemonstrate different intensity options, which ishelpful. The Ab Ripper X workout is 15 minutes long, and Iliked the sheer variety of the exercises. In theusual Beach Body tradition, there is a bar at thebottom of the screen that lets you know where you arein the indivual exercise and in the workout overall, which allows you to pace yourself throughout. Ireally, really like this and wish that other nonmind-body workouts would incorporate this neat tool!My critques of this workout are that the first fewexercises work the hip flexors almost more than theabdominals. With a name like "Ab Ripper" I wouldrather focus on JUST abs if possible. There areplenty of other ab exercises that don't use the hipflexors, or lack the temptation to use them at anyrate. I've done other 15 minute ab workouts that are harder- Callan's, for example. Callan does 300 of herunique almost pilates style abs that left medebilitated for four days! Tony says his workoutcontains 349 and I don't feel nearly as worked out, though believe me it was by no means a piece of cakeeither. I also find that the equivalent number of minutes ofthe Firm's 5 Day Abs are harder than Ab Ripper X aswell. Tony cues well and I like how he describes proper andimproper form (very important), but Tony himself Ifind annoying. He tries to be funny, and isn't. I was watching hisCardio X dvd (on the schedule to do tomorrow morning)and he spends a couple of minutes trying to imitateArnold Shwartzenhager's voice and c'mon, thatimitation routine is so old and overdone and it justcompletely lacks any true humor ingenuity. Tony, like Baron Baptiste in his yoga workouts, usesthe word "people", "boys and girls", and "kids"extensively to the point where I am practicallyscreaming at him to SHUT UP! For example, "Okay boysand girls, time to do our frog crunches", "Okaypeople, let's..." At one point he pointed out howwell Audra was doing and said, and I quote because Istopped the dvd to write this down - "This is the faceof a girl (A GIRL, HELLO! THIS IS A VOLUPTUOUS WOMAN!)who's working hard". I personally just found this tobe diminuitive, like see here's this GIRL doing a bigboy's workout. Whatever. My friend who's in just about the best shape ofanybody I know said that she and her husband do theseworkouts together. I must admit, this macho settingand male dominated workout WILL appeal to the guys! My alpha male boyfriend rolled his eyes at me theother day and said one day he'd "get a little gay" forme and do one of my workouts with me. Guys just havethis stereotyped idea that all men who do homeworkouts or gym classes are gay. It's exasperating!Anyway, I did watch the Cardio X video, and it looksGREAT! I can't wait to try it tomorrow, so I won'tspoil any of it for you now until I can write morefrom personal experience as opposed to just what Ihave seen. And while I may have been harsh on Tonyearlier, I can forgive almost any instructor if theworkouts are good, and these are I can tell! Anywaym, I am ESTATIC to have received this packagetoday, and it was better than Christmas getting allthese new workouts to try! I could hardly wait to runhome and check them out! If I weren't so sleepy rightnow I'd stay up for a couple of hours and watch somemore!Stay tuned..
