Guest guest
Oh, yeah? Well, my kid is more stubborn than your kid! So, there. Charlie is still not walking independently at age 6. And that in spite of the fact that his ever optimistic pediatrician has been predicting that he would walk any day now ever since he was about 17 months. I've accused him of trying to set the record for latest walking kid with Ds. Charlie has had a " K-walker " for a couple of years now. I think how he uses his walker has a lot to do with how well known he is at school. I'd walk him down the hall at school on rare occasions, and everybody, well, each and every staff person, including some that he would never have contact with and whom I sure didn't know from Adam, would say, hello, Charlie, good morning, Charlie. Charlie usually uses his walker to walk from front door to classroom. Last couple of years in two different school, his classroom has been farthest removed from front door. Charlie turns into first open door he finds--and then the next open door, and the next. Apparently gets to meet, and charm, a lot of people that way. These days, and hopefully tomorrow if it ever stops raining here in New Jersey, Charlie uses his walker when circling the bases in Miracle League baseball. But when he's in the field--played first base for first time last outing--I usually set the walker aside and just hold his hands, and sometimes let him sit and rock. Walking around house and going from house to car or from car to stroller, we give him just a couple of fingers to hold onto, sometimes just one hand to hold. Left to himself, his favorite mode of transportation continues to be butt scooting, though he is doing a lot more pulling up and cruising these days, and getting into more stuff. Oh, your 3 yearold may be as big as our 6 yearold. Charlie is about 42 inches tall but stays just under 40 pounds. A bit of a load for his mommy to carry upstairs to bed but doesn't seem all that heavy to me. Regards, Bob
Guest guest
My Nic didn't walk independently until 31 months old. He did the " bear walk " for the longest time! I know what you mean about the weight thing..80) Di Stubborn Kid Nicky, age 3, started school on Sept. 29th. He's still not walking so he's getting PT at school. On Tuesday, the PT brought a walker in for him to use and he was zooming around in it, practically running. Today, I went to pick him up and the teacher had written in his communication book " Nicky used the walker today for half the day. He became very stubborn after lunch and kept pushing the walker into the wall so that he did not have to walk anymore. I was amazed at how determined he could be. " I keep telling myself he will walk one of these days but he sure is stubborn about not. His EI PT thought he had all the pieces to walk but just couldn't see a good enough reason to. Not quite sure what to do about it but at 39 pounds he's awfully heavy. Anne Click reply to all for messages to go to the list. Just hit reply for messages to go to the sender of the message.
