Guest guest
Deb,I would be very careful about starting out attempting to treat symptoms through trial and error WITHOUT the research and back ground study that will give you the knowledge of what you are taking and what too much can do to you. Even though it is expensive, (my copy cost $50) I highly recommend, "Safe Uses of Cortisol" by Jeffries. This requires a doctor's RX and so does the T3 I am on. The STTM website tells you how to find a local doctor who will work with you. I am SO LUCKY that my doctor will let me try anything - even off-label uses as long as I explain why I want to try it.HOWEVER, there is one supplement that you can get right away and it is one that I simply cannot live without. Adaptocrine - you can get this online for $25, but I get it from my naturopath for $20 per bottle. I just went to her office and picked up 5 bottles of this stuff. If anyone is interested in this price I can see if there is a way to order online from her...This is something that everyone suffering from the signs of adrenal exhaustion can get on right now. It is an adaptogen (which supports rather than stimulates) the adrenals. I especially take a good dose (3 pills) before bed time because it helps prevent my insomnia and 3 pills right before my mid afternoon slump and 3 pills when I wake up.It is easy to boost low AM cortisol through OTC supplements or RX cortisol, but it is very hard to lower PM (or stress induced) cortisol. I don't have time to go into all of the supplements that "help" lower high cortisol or my many trials with all of theses supplements, but I can say that Adaptocrine is the one I ended up with because it gave the best results. It is an adaptogen (as the name implies) and adaptogens don't stimulate organ systems, they "support" or "nourish" them. Theoretically this means that they would help an under functioning adrenal system produce more, and an over functioning system produce less. If I run out of Adaptocrine I end up in my typical adrenal exhaustion pattern of needing naps again in the afternoon and waking up at 4 AM with insomnia. Since this is not a stimulant I can whole heartedly recommend this to ANYONE who suspects they have malfunctioning adrenals (they usually over produce cortisol before they finally wear out and start under producing). Considering that we live in a world that is steeped in stress (the news, chemicals, our food supply, etc.) it is no wonder that Adrenal Exhaustion is called the 21st Century Stress Syndrome (there is a book by that name BTW). I do need to get the book, but I've been reading the website, and looking on-line at what is available - it seems I could get something from my local health food store to get myself started trying something. Guest guest
Hi Lea Ann, What is the name of the company who makes Adaptocrine? Is it dessicated adrenal cortex, or is it vitamins and herbs, etc? Also, is Armour Thyroid T3 or just a compounded version of T4/Synthroid? thanks, Joyce > > > > From: Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...> > > Subject: OT - TSH is not useless - I stand corrected :-) > > > > Date: Friday, January 28, 2011, 1:40 PM > > > > > > I treat myself based on my symptoms and my dose changes just as my life and stressors change. Guest guest
Hello Joyce,Adaptocrine from Apex is designed to help support decreasing the impact of stress on the body*. The most important and clinically validated adaptogens for adrenals include Panax Ginseng, Siberian Ginseng, Ashwagandha, Rhodiola and Holybasil Leaf Extract*.Adaptocrine supports normalizing the Hypothalamus-Adrenal-Pituitary axis when under stress. This compound is useful support for both hyper and hypofunction of the adrenals. It helps support decreasing the impact of stress on the body, and increases our bodys ability to respond to stress.*Adaptocrine (K-2) contains broad spectrum herbal adaptogens clinically validated to support healthy adrenal feedback loop function.*Supplement Facts2 capsules contain:Vitamin C 200mgPanax Ginseng root 400mgAshwagandha root 400mgHoly basil leaf extract 200mg Rhodiola root extract 150mg Eleutherococcus root 100mgPantethine 100mgProprietary Blend: 157mg---Punarva---Betaine HCl---Cellulase (plant enzyme) Here is some information on Armour:http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/natural-thyroid-101/It is desiccated adrenal tissue from pigs that contains the same T4, T3, T2, and T1 that our own thyroid produces. From that link, "All desiccated thyroid comes from pig thyroid, and all most use thyroid desiccated powder which meets the stringent guidelines of the US Pharmacopeia"The problem with Synthroid is that it is T4 only (and T4 is a storage hormone) and lots of people have problems converting the T4 to the active form of thyroid hormone T3. I am on a T3 only RX (generic cytomel) because I have the improper ration of RT3 to T3 which requires a lot of study to understand, but in short - T4 (even from Armour) would convert to Rt3 in my body and not what I need which is T3. I'm getting my labs redone soon. After I see the results I'll either stay on T3 only or switch to Armour. I am reluctant to switch to Armour, however because T3 is working so well for me. I take on average only 7.5 mg per day right now and am doing great on that dose.Blessings,Lea Ann SavageSatellite Beach, FL(321) 773-7088 (home)(321-961-9219 (cell)))><'>www.VitamixLady.comwww..com<))>< On Jan 30, 2011, at 11:45 AM, hatchjoyce wrote: Hi Lea Ann, What is the name of the company who makes Adaptocrine?
