Hi Barak,Welcome to the group :-) Green smoothies are awesome, and such a great way to start the day. I have a Vitamix TNC 5200 with a wet and a dry container, and am VERY happy with my machine. I have had it since September last year and so far have made green smoothies, parsley pesto, hummus, soups, ice cream, a date and almond base for a raw fruit pie, normal smoothies, marinade for prawns, and salad dressing. I think this is the only model available in Australia (I could be wrong), but I am more than happy with it.

Hi, I am new to this forum.  I would like purchase a vitamixer to start making green smoothies daily, as well as other stuff.  Any suggestions for which model to get.  SO many choices?

Actually there aren't many choices when you break it down -- the ones offered to

consumers currently are based on the 5200 platform. The big difference is in

the accessories provided with the base unit. Oh, and the color.. :-)

The QVC unit is a " stripped down " 5200 basic unit with the Create cookbook.

The CIA unit is a 5200 with special labelling and some extra videos and a

cookbook.. The xyz is a 5200 with a different cookbook... (Get the idea?)

I did my research for my purchase (which by all reports should be here

tomorrow on the UPS truck) and decided on your basic 5200 refurb, purchased

through Lea Ann (the owner of this group)...

Welcome to the group, Barak! Glad you joined us. was spot on with his

information. Your best bet is to order from Lea Ann as she can get you free

shipping and the BEST deal going. She is currently at a show, but checks her

email in the evenings, so I am sure she will contact you. We look forward to

hearing which one you choose, and having you as part of our group!

Welcome!

As to many choices, not really if you're looking to buy a new machine. You don't want a 4500; beyond that, almost all of the current-generation machines function exactly the same as the 5200, the exception being the Pro Series 500 which has several electronic presets (our Char has one and can give you the details if that's what interests you). Other than that, differences are length of warranty and possibly different cookbooks and/or instructional DVDs.

The person who can really fill you in and get you a great price on a Vitamix (with the exception of the Pro Series) is Lea Ann, our list owner who's a demonstrator. She's doing a show now but will be checking in. I'm sure her contact information can be found on the group's home page if you want to contact her on her cell.

I'm really glad that the 5200 is available to you; overseas models used to be a generation behind.

Most people state that thge 5200 is far more than adequate for continuous home

use. The 3hp has some extra " oomph " to better cool the unit, but also has a

shorter warranty since it is designed for heavier commercial use. That extra

horsepower doesn't really equal better performance for home use, according to

net wisdom, since it does mostly to extra cooling capacity.
