What is the name of the movie; is it " The Gerson Miracle " and is it on Netflixs

or online?

I could not believe how little pulp was left when juiced all those

veggies. My Champion juicer is about 30 years old, still works great, but is

the round one which uses centrifugal force, and there is quite a bit of pulp

left over after juicing; much more so than what I saw do with the Vitamix!

the process of making us a press, and I'm thinking it could be used with the

Vitamix. We were going to use it in tandom with our Jack LaLanne juicer, to get

more juice from the pulp (as recommended in Gerson Therapy - but they recommend

a Norwalk or Champaion). Here's the link to the press my husband is making:

I couldn't really see the details of the make-it-yourself juice press. Is it

easy to make? I could probably get my dad to build me one.

thanks,

If you think you'll use it and can find the details (and if your dad

won't mind), go for it. :)

Champion, to the best of my knowledge, has never made a centrifugal

model--I believe the home-use centrifugal biggies 30 or so years ago

were the Olympic and the Acme (I think both companies were bought out

by Waring; I know Acme was). And if it's an Acme, the fact that it

still runs surprises me not a bit--they were built to last.

I think that is somewhat true. It's also mixed with her doing too much research

online. Everyone has a different opinion saying what to do and not to do.

It is a neuro-endocrine cancer that produces serotonin and it is fed by

serotonin and other hormones. So there are many people saying that healthy

foods are dangerous for this reason and that. Everything seems to 'feed' the

hormones and the tumors. She's finally getting past that idea a little now.

Plus her husband lost his mother to cancer and he has his own ideas about it

all. So it's too much for her right now. But she'll settle in to something

eventually.

The good news is today I told her I was going to the Organic Food Depot and

asked if she needed more carrots yet. She said yes and said that she hasn't been

juicing because last time the juice was spicy from the bags - we did mess them

up by getting jalapeno seeds in there. whew - talk about hot. We washed and

washed them but no success. I don't mind the spicy carrot apple juice though.

It's pretty good.

So anyway, she ordered some new bags today. That is a good sign!

I told her we could clean the old bags with vinegar and peroxide and it would

likely get the spiciness out of them.

the time she DOES realize it, which is often the case.  Most of us are raised to

pop a pill for every little ailment, and when it seems that no pill is going to

do the trick, it's a hard concept to accept that we have to take actions for

ourselves.  I was already sick and crippled with lupus when I was given a

diagnosis of leukemia and told to " get my affairs in order " .  It was far easier

for me to want to pull the covers over my head (and the wool over my eyes) than

to accept what I was being told.  Fortunately, I was motivated enough by my

young daughter to realize that I HAD to take drastic measures, and I was able

to.  My doctors are still scratching their heads as to how I am still here,

kicking and screaming,

It's good that she ordered new bags--very hopeful! In the meantime, why

not give the cloths a try? I personally prefer them to the bags--just

grind everything up first and then fill the cloths with a teacup; it

goes faster for me than the bags.

Also, I juice pretty much everything but greens with the # 3 grid; I

find it gives me better yield. I bought extras of the juicing grid

(which is what I use for greens) and #s 2 and 3. I keep a bowl of cold

water in the sink and periodically shut off the juicer (even though I

don't have to), pull out the grid and scrape it into the rest of the

pulp, drop it in the cold water, and stick in a clean grid; I repeat

this as needed. This adds MAYBE 5 minutes to my total juicing time but

the grinding goes faster and cooler and it eliminates the possibility

of juice leaking from behind the housing due to a clogged grid. It also

gives the juicer a little bit of a rest.

What is difference nutrition wise in juice from jack Leland vs champion vs Norwalk? Neva been More ready! On Jan 31, 2011, at 6:51 AM, Mom2_five <mom2_five@...> wrote:

Oh, geez--ANYTHING would be better than that unless you don't keep up with it. :OI hate to repeat what I've already posted but I've been juicing seriously since 1988. Now that that's out of the way, until 2009, I only used a Champion which, to my way of thinking (and to Norwalk's) is second only to the Norwalk for all-around juicing. However, if you find yourself using a Jack LaLanne but not a Champion, that's the way to go because a juicer--like any appliance--is only good if you use it....

I don't know how much juice is left behind in the pulp of a Jack La Lanne. The Champion is semi dry. The Norwalk pulp must be bone dry because of all of the pressure in the hydraulic press. will pipe in soon I'm sure - she is the Juice Queen. The difference will relate to how much juice is squeezed out of that pulp because according to , the minerals cling to the pulp the most and are only squeezed out in significant amounts by the Norwalk.

The Norwalk grinds produce into virtual wet slop (it's already part

juice before it's pressed), thereby rupturing virtually every cell wall

that can be ruptured, then presses the " slop " through cloth with a

tight weave at 1 ton of pressure by means of an electric hydraulic

press. The resulting pulp is, for all intents and purposes, devoid of

nutrition. The Champion simultaneously grinds and press produce through

a fine screen produces juice of quite good quality and flavor.

Centrifugal juicers simultaneously shred produce (not as effectively as

either of the previous two) and hurl it against a filter at high speed,

resulting in less juice and more oxidation. Still, it's better than no

juice at all and if that's the juicer that you'll use, that's the one

to keep.

Juice Queen...oy. :)

Dryness of pulp is not necessarily a good indicator of juice quality,

particularly when discussing centrifugal juicers. Yes, the pulp is

often dry but it's due to being spun around, not unlike a washing

machine's " spin " cycle.

Carol's observation about minerals remaining to the last really is

true. As I stated before, I see the difference at the bottom of my

juice jars. Bear in mind that homemade juice is never " clear " ; there

are all sorts of what I call " insoluble solids " that permeate the cloth

or other filter but, being heavier than the juice's water, settle on

the bottom (you need to gently stir or shake before drinking). There's

a LOT of white on the bottom if you keep pressing (once is virtually

never sufficient).

, you are absolutely right (as always!) It is an Acme Challenger

Juicerator Model 7001! I don't why I thought it was a Champion; I haven't used

it in a while and I guess I got Challenger and Champion mixed up! And, yes, it

still works great.

As a New Yorker, you will appreciate this story. My parents got it for me when

I was in college and I had to carry it and my suitcase (no wheels back then)

through Port Authority to change buses to get back to college. This was back

when Port Authority was a very scary place, as was that whole section of the

city. It was so bad, it was even unsafe to use the bathrooms there.

It is really heavy and I don't even remember how I managed to get to my bus, but

I remember feeling very relieved that I didn't get mugged on the way to the bus

because I was carrying so much stuff!

You have the CREAM of centrifugal juicers and I seem to recall that

Norman himself felt that if one wanted to go that route, an Acme

was the way to go. Some folks prefer to juice this way and I always

suggest hitting eBay and looking for an Acme of no more recent vintage

than the '70s (I think Waring bought them out in the '80s but I'm not

sure).

Acmes not only run forever but they produce the best juice of all the

centrifugal models. A Champion will give even richer juice but you

might find it more of a bother to deal with, not to mention how cool

the old Acmes look! Is the 7001 the plastic/stainless combo or is yours

all-stainless?

BTW, I don't think I'd use the public restrooms in the Port Authority

even now. :) To tell you the truth, I miss the seediness. Times Square

is much too annoyingly sanitized, as is the rest of the city (it's NEW

Amsterdam, after all). I still recall walking in Times Square in the

late '70s and reading on the marquee of a porn theatre: " The Pizza

Girls...They Deliver. " The best part was that every 30 seconds you'd

hear some passerby incredulously reading it aloud (several years later

they changed " girls " to " boys, " I guess to reflect the changing

times--it was still funny).

We've got one of 'those Breville things' for a juicer and it's not too bad ;-) But then I don't have an Acme or a Champion or a Norwalk to compare it to. I'm keen to get it out again now that I have some ideas for what to do with the pulp - I always felt it was so wasteful, especially for organic produce.

.. As Joyce can verify, these are terrific juicers and a lot cheaper

than those Breville things that get lots of bad reviews on Amazon.

We've had it a few years now, but we don't use it that much. It's the Breville Ikon centrifugal juicer. Hubby used to use it every day to make a juice for breakfast, and it worked great, and when he pulled it out to make a marinade with lime juice for our Christmas prawns, it was still working really well. I think if we were using it every day it might have conked out by now, but so far so good.

How long have you had yours, Niki? Because I read complaints of them

We've got one of 'those Breville things' for a juicer and it's not too

bad ;-) But then I don't have an Acme or a Champion or a Norwalk to

compare it to. I'm keen to get it out again now that I have some ideas

for what to do with the pulp - I always felt it was so wasteful,

especially for organic produce.

The complaints seemed to come from folks who used theirs on a regular

basis.

It's easy to be put off a brand name when you have had more than 1 bad experience. Thankfully there are other excellent brands with good reputations (albeit dearer) for the gadget divas among us!

And it's also a good thing friends with experience in such matters can

offer advice. :))
