Guest guest
Can anyone offer suggestions for grinding coffee in the VM? I have done it once, used the dry container but it ground the coffe to a powder and the water sort of just flowed thru it. Do I need to do smaller batches? What is the best speed, method, etc. Thanks in advance!
Guest guest
I hate to say that there is a function that the Vitamix does not do well, but the best coffee grounds are created in a burr grinder. Here is the one I have and I love it (it was only $35 at Costco).http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DBM-8-Supreme-Automatic-CCM-16PC1/dp/B00018RRRKSadly, Costco no longer carries it in the stores and the only one they have online is $99 :-(HOWEVER, if you'd like to grind in the Vitamix, I'd say just grind for less time - perhaps also try pulsing from off to high a few times by flipping the on off switch while the other switch is on high. Guest guest
I grind my coffee beans in the VM always !! I use the wet container and go from 1 - 10 and it only takes a few seconds. I only do 1 cup at a time. I use a french press and like the beans a bit coarse. Then I use a chopstick to get the bits on the side out. A bean grinder probably works better but mine crapped out and it was one less appliance to replace. Leanne
Guest guest
I see your coffee snobbiness and raise you a coffee grinder. My coffe grinder cost more than my Vitamix did. My beans are less than a week old. Tony Re: grinding coffee in the VM I can out snob you. Guest guest
I started out with a corn popper to roast, then went through a couple " purposed " coffee roasters which died after a few months. Then I got a Behmor (through Sweet 's) which I still use 3 years after purchase... I have a Rancilio Silvia and Rancilio Rocky combo which, while not " the best " you can buy for home use, are pretty darned good. - Dow, D.C. > >> > > >> >> Oh please don't grind ocffee in the Vitamix. Guest guest
Y'know, it's funny but just last week I happened to remember an incident that happened 35+ years ago and it was just along these lines. My former husband's family is Israeli and we liked to visit this club: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0AFeFaUmsI & playnext=1 & list=PLA7711FF905B53C6E .. Anyhow, one night we were seated at a table alongside a couple (whom we didn't know) that consisted of an Israeli guy and an American girl. The guy ordered Turkish coffee for them (a " feenjon " is a Turkish coffee pot) and when it came and had been poured, the girl reached for the creamer, prompting the three of us to simultaneously scream " NO! " It was quite funny. Re: grinding coffee in the VM Â Mmm chewy coffee (?) isn't that the way they like it in Turkey? Page & gt; & gt; & gt; & gt; I roast my own too... Guest guest
It was described to me as powdered coffee with enough sugar to make a syrup so I immediately thought how handy it would be to make in my trusty vitamix. No cream allowed huh? Better eat it with something then I betcha! Guest guest
If memory serves, you mix up the coffee, sugar, and water in the pot, put it on to boil, let it boil, take it off the heat, and repeat twice more before serving (you let the grinds settle on the bottom of the cup). I also remember that Sweet 's had some pretty cool manual grinders specifically for Turkish coffee. Guest guest
Looks like my memory was pretty accurate, especially considering that I can't stand coffee and never drink it. Funny how you don't forget some things.
