I believe once he turns 18 it doesn't matter what your income is!

Have you tried to file on his income for the Medicaid waiver ( Beckett in

WI & TEFRA in SC) don't know what they would call it in your state?

Re: My 2 cents worth(CDDO)

Good morning everyone,

I have a question. Tommy does not receive Medicaid or SSI because they say

our income is too high. Will he receive it at 18 even if our income is the

same?

I have been on the Cash Subsidy Program for 3 yrs. They haven't gotten to

Tommy yet. Anyway a friend of mine is raising her grandson with DS and when

they came to her house they said he didn't qualify. So I figure Tommy want

either. Where do you apply for the Medicaid Waiver? Is it the same place you

apply

for SSI and Medicaid? I haven't heard of that here but I'm going to check it

out. The Shriners hospital in Shreveport is going to help us out on getting

Tommy's orthodic's this year. I'm sure thankful for that.

qualified for Medical Assistance.......that is NOT based on income. But he

can't receive SSI until he is 18 because that is based on income.

Hi,

My son did not get anything until he turned 18. They said we made to much (I

never saw it but they said we did LOL). We called SSI and set up an

appointment. Yes you can do it over the phone but if they see your child the

benefits

usually start the next month because they can see why you need them and it

is assumed they will get them. Health insurance shows up with the SSI.

I am waiting for the brick to fall because it was to easy. I have heard such

horror stories.

The guardianship is harder for me as it is emotionally draining to convince

people he is disabled when they throw all the paperwork at you calling him

Mentally retarded and even have to post that in the newspaper. It is hard to see

the psych and social worker and tell them that yes he is MR and needs your

help. I feel so bad doing this but I know it is what is best for him.Just

typing this has started me crying AGAIN. I have the phone off the hook because

the lawyer wants to come today and see him so she can try to explain

guardianship to him My hormones are to crazy today to deal with this. (darn

menopause)

So if you know what must be done to protect your child and get them the

things they need be aware that agencies use the MR word like it was water.

As to a case worker. YEAH RIGHT!!!. Let me know when the promised phone call

is coming, I have had to call the MR department and speak to his under 18

case worker because the other one can't be bothered to call.

I so wish they would just call him handicapped or DD but the state insists

on MR.

who will go wipe the tears away and get back into Lioness mode and deal with
