Guest guest
I'm drinking a smoothie like I've never made before so thought I'd share it since I like it so much.I bought a large container of organic baby spring mix at Sam's and some Bolt House Farm's Carrot Juice (which they claim has no preservatives and no other ingredients besides juice, but I can hardly believe that - but I digress...) I put a cup of carrot juice, one frozen banana, and two hands full of baby spring mix into the container and whizzed her on high. It was a bit thick so I added some ice and whizzed until that melted and Voila - it was TASTY!!! (UGLY color - very dark green - but color never bothers me).I've never used juice in a smoothie before - now I know why people do - it is a great sweetener! , I may just have to save up for that blue, Norwalk I fantasize about... Guest guest
Ah, so it's BLUE for you when I hit the lottery--you and Bren will save me $100 apiece by not coveting all-stainless. I was pleased to note on the Norwalk site that they're two weeks behind in shipping; I'm glad business is booming for them because they make one helluva juicer. Juice is miraculous and as you've just tasted, it works very well with the Vitamix lifestyle. I have an idea for a smoothie that I'll share with y'all--I call it "Carrot Cake." I'd blend up a cup of really good carrot juice, 1/4 - 1/3 cup walnut or pecan pieces (I think the Swiss use pecans in their carrot cake), one or two frozen bananas, maybe a little frozen pineapple (or not), cinnamon to taste (Penzeys has a SLAMMIN' cinnamon selection), a little vanilla, and maybe a handful of skim milk cubes to make sure it's nice and thick. I'd probably sweeten it with honey if it needed it--I suspect it's the best fit for this. If you can get fresh, gum-free cream cheese, maybe a dollop on top when it's served...? So whaddya think? My Awesome Smoothie I'm drinking a smoothie like I've never made before so thought I'd share it since I like it so much. www..com <))><

Guest guest
Lea Ann, Thank you for this timely suggestion! Prior to reading this I purchased the Sam's organic baby spring mix on a whim after deciding I was ready to graduate from baby spinach. What a difference, I used the same amount of greens but did not get a good tasting result with the spring mix. My palate is not as developed as I thought! I can not wait to try it with organic carrot juice (did this come from Sams, too?) and hopefully salvage my large container of spring mix. Guest guest
Hello Trina,Yes, I got the spring mix and the Bolthouse Farms at Sam's Club. Do not despair if you still don't like it - I've been at this for 3 years now and my taste buds have had a long time to "develop" :-)If you still don't like it a possibility would be to try it in a blended salad - it is a completely different taste. My blended salads always have something tart (lemon or vinegar usually) something for fat (usually walnuts or seeds like sesame, sunflower, pumpkin) something sweet (Stevia for me, but I recommend a date or two for people who don't like Stevia), something salty (usually just Sea Salt) Greens (varies) and whatever veggies I have around in the kitchen + ice. (a pinch of sun dried tomatoes is usually a staple in this for me)Start out with a small one in case you don't like this.Again, if the taste of baby greens is still too bitter - don't worry - if you keep at the Green Smoothie habit and s-l-o-w-l-y add in the more bitter greens, over time, your taste buds will adapt. Move from spinach to romaine - that is usually an easy step (although I've gotten bitter heads of romaine - but when that happens it is a fluke rather than a rule). Guest guest
I have to confess that my weakness is Wyman's frozen wild blueberries--they're not cheap but they're wonderful and unlike the wild blueberries sold (for less) at Whole Foods, they're grown in Maine (I like to buy US...so sue me). I think they also have a mixed-berry offering as well, so I'll check it out. Re: Re: My Awesome Smoothie I keep a bag of triple berry in the freezer at all times.
