Guest guest
We use a veggie juice (like V-8) with garlic, hot pepper sauce and lemon juice. I don't know the exact measurements because I just eyeball it. Usually one 4-6 oz drink of this and the sore throat is gone. Guest guest
Salt water doesn't taste good but I find it's most effective for me. Re: sore throat concoction Try gargling with salt water. Guest guest
Your concoction sounds perfect-just go heavy on the lemon, and maybe add some other citrus for a good boost of Vitamin C. Elderberries are wonderful "medicine", but fresh are hard to find. I grow them and keep them frozen, using them exclusively for "medicine". I am sure you can find a powdered version, though it wouldn't be as effective as if you can your hands on some fresh. Blueberries are also high in antioxidants, but of course any you find this time of year will have been grown in hothouses. I suggest ORGANIC everything, since non organic pesticides can actually cause sore throat, and you are concentrating it when you Vitamix it, so organic is important. Hope your crew feels better soon! From: Krystal S <partyoffive@...>Subject: Re: sore throat concoction Date: Wednesday, January 19, 2011, 12:39 PM We use a veggie juice (like V-8) with garlic, hot pepper sauce and lemon juice. Guest guest
Don't have a concoction to drink but, I do know shiitake mushrooms are a natural antibiotic, always eat them when I am starting to get sick. Works every time. Maybe someone could come up with a way to do them into a good tasting concoction. -- Re: sore throat concoction We use a veggie juice (like V-8) with garlic, hot pepper sauce and lemon juice. Guest guest
No, but my whole family got a TERRIBLE sore throat and I started to get it, but aborted it with one 50,000 mg dose of Vitamin D per day for 3 days in a row. If you do this at the first sign of an illness it works like a round of antibiotics (but works on viruses too). Guest guest
Mmmm, shititakes!! I can imagine making a cream of shiitake mushroom soup (heavy on the mushrooms) and adding a bit of lemon. I'll have to try that! :-) What I did this morning was blend up a chunk of ginger, honey, termeric, 2 lemons (peeled), a dash of cayenne pepper, with some hot water. It was quite potent (!). For lunch, I heated some tomato juice and added some greens and garlic for a soup/smoothie. My throat feels better tonight. Placebo or not, I'm glad to have it feeling better! -Amber > > Don't have a concoction to drink but, I do know shiitake mushrooms are a > natural antibiotic, always eat them when I am starting to get sick. Guest guest
Should be 3% solution as you get in the drugstore. 35% is available in health food stores, but is way too strong. http://www.ehow.com/how_4816679_of-cold-flu-hydrogen-peroxide.html Chuck As for cats being from this planet, I don't think ANY of them are. Guest guest
Amber, for a sore throat, put about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a teaspoon of sea salt (I prefer Himalayan, but use whatever you have...just NOT MORTON'S!) in about 4 oz of comfortably warm water and gargle with that every hour or so. Used this on my kids for years. Works like a charm! (Of course they don't speak to me now, but that's another story, as is fond of saying... ;>) - it's a joke, folks!)HTH! When I was in high school, one winter I had strep throat (genuine strep, not sore throat) about once every 3 weeks for about 3 months. Finally had my tonsils out during Thanksgiving break my first year in college. Trust me...you don't want to wait until you are an adult to have your tonsils out. The Dr. said if he hadn't taken them out himself, he would have sworn they were gallstones (from the repeated infections). Ouch. A couple of years ago I saw my roomie from that year at college and she still remembered the tonsil episode. She said I cried in my sleep from the pain. She uses the story to discourage people from waiting until adulthood for a tonsillectomy. Well, so much for that - sorry to be so OT. I do hope you feel better soon!Peggy

Guest guest
This is not a vitamix remedy but I work in an elementary school so I know this works. Olive Leaf extract in pill form and zinc (also a pill). I will take two pills each 4 times a day when I feel getting sick. Most of the times it helps and prevents a cold from turning into a sinus infection or something worse. I always tell everyone to research Olive Leaf first, but it is a natural antibiotic. Good luck. Feel better. I will also up my Vitamin C doseage, but probably the Vitamix will be good for that. > > Our family is suffering from sore throats (and possibly the beginnings of colds). Guest guest
We also swear by Olive Leaf extract and vit c. My husband has a compromised immune system from chemo and he has not gotten sick in a long time using this. His cancer doctor is very impressed. Beverly Texas Re: Re: sore throat concoction I am totally with you on the Olive Leaf Extract - it is very effective at heading off upper respiratory tract infections. Guest guest
We've used Vitamin shop 500 mg, Walmart 150 mg for daughter & Swansons 500 mg (mail order). We take it twice a day for general purposes and more if sick. It's good for many things, just google it and see what it says. Beverly Re: Re: sore throat concoction *Do you mind sharing more info on the olive leaf extract? I went on Amazon and there are so many brands as well as doses and forms. Does anyone have a good internet source? Brand names to seek out or avoid? That kind of info would help me. Thanks. Arlene in Ohio
