Stacie,It is good to hear from you.  My ICD started beeping last Saturday.  At first the old brain didn't know what it was.  By Monday I had confirmed that it was my ICD.  Called the doc had had an appointment today.  I am scheduled for a replacement on 12/19/2011.  That's six years and a couple of months on this battery.

When I reminded the doc that I am on blood thinner because of a mechanical valve he said they no longer take you off of the blood thinner and it should be outpatient.  That is great news as the last time I think I spent a week in the hospital waiting for the blood clotting levels to return to normal.

I hope that everyone enjoys the Holiday and that I'm not making a mistake getting the ICD replaced so close to Christmas.  I guess I shouldn't expect much from Santa Claus.

Stacie,My husband, Mark, lost his job in April and we have been trying to get disability for him since then. He certainly qualifies, but continued to work since our soon is still in high school. His heart has weakened along with his morale. He is having shoulder replacement surgery in a couple of weeks. I moved my business out of an office last week and into our home to save money and keep an eye on him. I'm glad that your dad is doing well with his ICD. Hi folks--

So far I'm shock-free, five years out from my cardiac arrest. I haven't been

back to the hospital once for this issue, my unit is rarely used for pacing, and

so far I'm doing well. Thanks for checking in, Stacie!

I was wondering just a few days ago if I was out of the loop of this

list, it had been so long since I saw a message here. I'm glad to hear

from you Stacie!

I'm doing well, over four years after my ICD was implanted. So far, no

shocks or pacing. But I'm due to have surgery for a minor and unrelated

problem that will include general anesthesia. I'm not real worried

about it, but I do wonder if something would set off the ICD while i'm

" under. " But I guess if I'm " under " it wouldn't matter so much. (isn't

the device " tested " while your unconscious during it's implantation?)

I'm guessing that the silence from this group means people are doing

OK. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to everyone.

Hi all,and Merry Christmas to everyone ! Am doing ok, but had some concerns when i had my last checkup, the cardio tech asked me about removing my new ICD, i had just had it put in less than a year ago and now saying this stuff, I told her in so many words HELL NO !!! LOL First of all even tho she is probably well qualified to do the testing, but am not so sure about her saying this stuff about removing my icd. Am on my second one and had it put in at the VA in Tucson and have never heard a word from them since, never has bothered to call and ask how im doing or anything. have not see a cardio dr since either, even tho the VA i go to reguraly has one i have never meant him, so who is she to say this? Makes me very nervious as i really dont have much faith in the

VA. My primary dr has never said anything about it either RE: removing. and besides my primary and i are butting heads over a blotched surgery i had at the VA in Alburqueque when they left wire fragments inside me and never said a word, after having xrays and CT scan and one can see these frags, my primary dr denies she sees anything. Well i understand her not admitting to it since in 2000 i filed a claim againist the VA and am still fighting for compensation from them. She also sent me to see a urology dr and he also denies seeing anything on the films. Thats the govt for ya. There is a saying that has been around for the VA for a while now " Deny Deny and Hope You Die " which i first i thought was hogwash, but now days i wonder, i know they are somewhat over loaded with new patients comming in, but ............. oh well sorry for sounding off. I just get so frustrated with the VA.

Yes i would like to go back to my private drs (cardio and primary) but i cant afford the co-payments, especailly at the cardio drs office. caught up in the scam of it all. Anway i would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Joyious New Year. Keep the Faith My Friends. in Az

Thanks, Stacie, for your reply regarding surgery. I have a magnet, which is from Medtronics, provided by my doc at the time of implantation, to shut it off, since I have the "recalled" fidelis lead in me. I've never put it near my ICD even though the folks monitoring me say it's fine to do that to check for battery status (it is supposed to beep in a certain way if battery is OK and a different way if it is not.) But I know it shuts down the ICD as long as the magnet is proximate to it. I'll take my magnet along to the hospital!

Stacie,

when my husband needed help with SS disability, he called Occudata--a law firm that only deals with helping people get disability. If you search on line , it will come up. My husband never met them--they are in Kansas, I think but dealt only on phone and mail --this was about 18 years ago. A close friend also was helped. I highly recommend them if disability is dragging their feet.

PS--by the way all--my son Dave is doing great--thanks to much prayer and great doctors in Boston and the support of this great group. MERRY CHRSTMAS TO ALL!!!!!.

Hi everyone,

Happy Holidays to you all. I’m out here in CA

and doing well enough. , I understand the confusion about a tech

asking you about removing your ICD. Do you have any idea why she asked

you that? Sometimes I’d love to have mine removed, but I think most

docs are opposed to it.

Knock wood, I’ve had no “necessary” shocks—just

the ones from a fractured wire some years ago, and I’ve had “phantom

shocks.” Does anyone else out there have phantoms? If so, how

often, and under what circumstances. All of mine but one have occurred in

the night—woke me, but then when I have the ICD checked out the next time

it shows no fires, which is a good thing. The last one I had wasn’t

as potent as the ones prior to that.

Anyway, Happy New Year to Everyone.

Teri,, have no idea why she would say this having my ICD removed, she said something abuot im doing better and that my Injection Fraction is good, thought the only way they could tell your IF is by doing a stress test which i havent had one in years, I would like t ask what are phathom shocks> have no idea what these are. Strange indeed. Ejection fraction can be measured through an echocardiogram. A stress test echo is used to see the EF when the heart is at work. Seems counterintuitive to have an ICD removed. Maybe it was the ICD that improved your EF by assisting the heart. The first thing that distinguishes a writer is that he is most alive when alone.-- AmiFrom: <shadow061@...>Subject: Re: time for everyone to post !!!!!!!" If I was told to have my functioning AICD removed, I

would definitely get a trusted second opinion, and then decide for

myself if either or both are credible. Mine regulates my pulse,

and checks for afib and dangerous VT. It provides therapy first,

without shocks. If the therapy doesn't work, it gives a

therapeutic shock (as often as necessary to keep me alive).

Because of the previous, I am delighted to have it. I can't

believe it can be harmful to have it in my chest. I've had one for

12 years. It saved my life.

Happy Holidays to everyone out there in zapper land!Ho Ho Ho

, you are a remarkable woman. Every time I read your posts or think about

you it helps to put my life into perspective.

I wanted to ask, especially since I know there are A LOT of lurkers out there.

Has anyone been diagnosed with autonomic nerve dysfunction? My doctors are

guardedly speculating that this may be the cause of my heart problems. Since

they have never been able to determine the cause of both my heart attack and

cardiac arrest. They discovered I have a very high vagel response when I had my

last angiogram. This also would explain why my ICD and I were not compatible.

I also wanted to share that I have been off of amioderone for a little more than

a year and am feeling so much better. My thyroid healed itself and other than

residual problems with my teeth from having had dry mouth for so long, life is

looking brighter. Once in awhile I will have problems with my mucus membranes

feeling like they are burning or double vision but the episodes get farther and

farther apart. I'm not a candidate for the drug anymore. woohoo!

Again, Merry Christmas to All and to All a happy holiday season

and others,

Phantom shocks feel like the real thing, but are not. Some

medical professionals think they are caused by anxiety and tension associated

with wearing a defibrillator. Not everyone has them, so I suppose not

knowing what they are is a good thing. You can go onto Google or whatever

search engine and type: “defibrillator phantom shock”

(leave out the quotation marks though,) the first two hits that come up are

pretty good articles that comment on what they are. I found the articles after

I’d had a shock or two that I was sure was real but was proven not to be

when I next had the ICD checked. Hope this helps.
