Whole Flax Seeds - Yes

Whole Wheat Berry Seeds - What are you trying to accomplish?  Are you talking about sprouted wheat berries?  Dry Wheat Berries produce whole wheat flour - you " could " put them in a smoothie, but you could also add flour to a smoothie and that doesn't seem very appetizing to me.  People do add Oats to smoothies, so I guess you could also add wheat berries.

However, flax seeds won't damage your container - wheat berries are harder and although they could be blended into a flour in your wet container, they will scratch the plastic.

If sprouted for long enough they might be considered more like greens - then that would be a form of a Green Smoothie! :-)

Wheat sprouts are DELICIOUS.

Unless you're planning to grow grass, wheat sprouts become unwieldy pretty quickly and it's very hard to get them to "green up" as well because they pack together (I know this from experience). Best to keep sprouts sprouts and grass grass.

We are currently sprouting SproutPeople's Amber Waves of Grain mix (wheat, barley, rye, spelt, triticale, oats, kamut, sesame, millet, amaranth, quinoa) for 2-3 days only and using that in our green smoothies. Delicious! And no dinging of the container. 's right about it growing into grass if grown more than about 3 days. Added SPs Mother's Mix (clover, alfalfa, fenugreek, broccoli, 2 sesames and garlic chive) today and it's wonderful, too. I have the plain wheat and plain rye also. Plan to try growing wheat grass and juicing it with a manual Healthy Juicer, recommended by someone highly thought of by SP. Going to use the rye to make Rejuvelac. I also bought plain quinoa, but it didn't say whether it's red or yellow. says she only likes the red. This one is a

yellow color - is that the criteria for the name? Haven't used it yet.Lots of interesting stuff going on here lately! What fun...Peggy

Peggy, contact me offlist for tips growing grass--I've gotten good at it and can lend a hand (two musts are low temperatures and a lot of light). Also, if you're going to invest in a manual juicer, the one to get is either the Miracle MJ445 or the Hurricane (they're identical except for the finish). The Healthy Juicer (I have to wonder what they mean by that--it's an inanimate object, after all) is supposed to do a good job and it's a lot less money but it's also a lot less durable. The two I mentioned are solid stainless steel, take <a minute to break down and clean, and always get the highest ratings among users. Keep checking eBay--a used one might show up for <list.

One of the few plants I have never grown either! Too much cop background, and discovered I was allergic during an evidence incinerator burn :( I will never forget a local cop coming to my house about a neighborhood disturbance once, and his about spun off his shoulders when he saw my elaborate grow light system in my living room. He thought he had hit the jackpot, and was MOST disappointed when the most dubious thing he could find growing in my house was peppers that STRONGLY resemble male genitalia, and yes, they are called pe#*er peppers. Feel free to ask for a pic-they are a hoot!
