Guest guest
Dear Colleagues, Last week I wrote the following email inviting your participation in a fund raising event for Doernbecher Children's Hospital. For those of you who responded positively, your participation is acknowledged and greatly appreciated. For those of you who have not yet responded, please take the time to read through my request again and consider joining our growing group. As chiropractic physicians we are each deeply committed to the health and welfare of our patients and their families. As a profession we continue to strive to increase our reach and utilization by the public we serve, and our state organization has been integral in leading the way. I am currently serving my second year on a fund raising committee for Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland. As you may know, Doernbecher is a leading pediatric center in the country, and has done an enormous amount of good for the children of the region. I would like to share with you an opportunity we each have as individuals to contribute to the greater good of the future; namely our children and those children that will follow in their footsteps long after each of us is gone. While we all know the tremendous value of children being under regular chiropractic care, we can't ignore the times that more aggressive medical intervention becomes necessary. Each October a gala auction event is held to raise money for the future of the hospital. This year's goal is $1 million dollars that will assist with the renovation of the pediatric emergency department. These funds will help launch a program that will create a child-oriented, family-centered, state-of-the-art facility. Currently, six of the state's seven board-certified pediatric emergency specialists staff the Doernbecher Emergency Department. In the next few years, these highly-trained specialists will staff the program 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, something that is currently not available anywhere in the region. As part of OHSU, Oregon's only academic medical center, one of only two Level 1 trauma centers in the state, and a nationally-recognized leader in emergency medicine, it is imperative for Doernbecher to bring this level of excellence to children throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. The Chiropractic Association of Oregon has an opportunity to join a committed group and take a `sponsorship' position in this years fund raising auction on October 21, 2007 to be held at the Portland Art Museum. The black tie event will be attended by 500 `movers and shakers' in the community and is an opportunity for our profession to show we care in the public domain. It will also allow us to select ten chiropractic physicians to attend and represent the profession at this worthwhile event, as well as give our organization numerous mentions in invitations, catalogs, website, programs and event signage. A half page ad will appear in the auction catalog and an additional ad will appear in the Portland Business Journal. Our ten chiropractic representatives will be invited to attend a VIP reception, and we will get on stage recognition and receive an award as a sponsoring participant. While it's true that we have many more `fish to fry' on the legislative front that require our hard earned dollars, I believe we shouldn't ignore our duty to be contributing members of our community. This is an opportunity for our profession to join others in the public arena and give back to the community that supports us. We are seeking to recruit 50 doctors to pledge $100.00 each for this tax deductible event, and hope you will join us. If you want to give less, that's fine! I would be happy to provide you additional information about the work being done at Doernbecher Children's Hospital and what our `sponsorship' dollars will bring. Additionally, I would be happy to arrange guided tours of the facility for any of you that would be interested. It's easy to do: just take your checkbook and write out a check to the Chiropractic Association of Oregon and earmark it for Doernbecher Children's Hospital sponsorship program. Both I and our esteemed colleague Vern Saboe, D.C. are the first two committed, so we need 48 more! If others wish to attend the event beyond our ten select doctors, individual tickets can be obtained for the event. Additionally, those who wish to donate goods or services should contact me directly and I can provide a procurement form that outlines this process. Lastly, I must encourage each of you to reach down and make a monthly commitment to join the ICE-PAC so our team can continue to work on behalf of the profession in Oregon. A contribution of $25, $45 or $85 per month will go a long way towards reaching our goals. Yours in chiropractic, K. Tunick, D.C.
