Guest guest
Soy also appears to help lower blood pressure, which will has a favorable effect on cardiovascular and heart disease. In a three-month, randomized, double-blind study, 40 men and women with mild to moderate hypertension were evaluated. They consumed 500 ml of soymilk two times a day or cow’s milk. Systolic blood pressure decreased by 18.4 mmHg in the soy milk group and only 1.4 mmHg in the cow’s milk group. Diastolic blood pressure decreased 15.9 mmHg in the soy milk group and 3.7 mmHg in the cow’s milk group. The amount of genistein present in the urine was associated with the decrease in blood pressure, indicating that the soy isoflavones were responsible for the beneficial effects. This demonstrates a significant lowering of blood pressure and lessens the odds of getting cardiovascular disease.
