DRAFT Notice to accompany Form 801

Dear Colleagues,

Proof positive that we can facilitate positive changes in state government

and many is the time it's simply a matter of taking the time and being part

of the process a.k.a. helping to drive the bus rather than sitting in the

back seat being driven!

So here's to the end of the inappropriate steering of Oregon Injured Workers

to the local Occ Med Clinic, the Urgent Care Clinic, or the " company

(hack)

doctor...

To the continued good fight cheers,

Vern Saboe

Re: DRAFT Notice to accompany Form 801

Dr. Saboe,

We sent a notice to roughly 90,000 employers, medical providers, and

insurers, etc., in March of this year, along with the " Guide for Workers

Recently Hurt on the Job, " that was developed through your efforts and

input from other committee members.

Here is the link to that publication:

http://www.cbs.state.or.us/external/wcd/communications/industry_notices/choo

se_prov.pdf

Because the mailing prompted a number of calls from employers (who

began to question their own practices), we think it did serve to educate

many system participants about worker's rights to choose providers. We

are still drafting changes to the larger brochure " What happens if I'm

hurt on the job?, " to reflect recent law changes, and we will send this

to the advisory committee before too long for your input.

One other change that we have yet to implement is a telephone message

system that callers could use to get prerecorded messages on three

primary questions: 1) How do I file a claim; 2) How can I get treated

(and who by); and 3) How can I get paid for time lost from work. We have

the system more or less designed, but we have not had staff available to

do the phone programming (due to illness), so that has been delayed.

If you would like additional information or if I may assist in any way,

please feel free to contact me.

Vern,

I remember when workers comp. insurance companies sent out a letters to every person who had ever had a claim explaining that they could no longer see a chiropractor(as an attending physician). Patients were asking me why they got the letter 2 years after their claim settled. It was clearly worded to confuse the issue and imply that one could not see a chiropractor at all. It was a terrible time bringing feelings of helplessness and impotent anger.

Since then, many, many patients have mistakenly thought that they could not see a chiropractor in an MVA or managed care insurance without a prescription from a medical doctor. It was a market share and cost containment game with no danger of punishment by the insurance commisioner.

Thank you for your unending effort to lobby for truth, justice, and the American way!

OregonDCs] FW: DRAFT Notice to accompany Form 801

Sincerely,

Fred Bruyns, Policy Analyst/Rules Coordinator

Me again,

Sorry you probably told me this prior but when is the date that all

these

materials will be in the hands of employers and providers?

Reason I ask is that I'm organizing a informational meeting for

employers,

labor union folk, providers, and carriers as per current Oregon law &

rules

regarding injured worker's treatment rights etc.

Tanks for all you do Fred,

Vern Saboe
