Trina,

It sounds like your doc did the usual checkup which is fine most of

the time, but I went through this for most of my thirties. Finally,

I felt something on my left side and went to see a NEW gyno who

happens to be the coolest doc ever. He agreed with me - yep,

something going on, we did ultrasound and found an ovarian cyst

(softball sized) which was probably causing the bleeding from hades

all along. He put me on bc pills, and although they didn't

completely stop the bleeding, they made it MUCH more controllable, I

didn't get cramps (horribly) the way I used to and it really didn't

cause water retention at all (I can do the retention all on my own;)

Ovarian cyst is just a pain (sometimes literally:), but nothing

malignant or anything like that.

Point is, I had to do the research and do some major medical reading

because my previous doctors told me EXACTLY the same thing they told

you. Kinda lazy medical opinions, if you ask me.

Research, go on the birth control pills, and get a new doc. Oh, and

see if the " new " doc will arrange for an ultrasound for you. Amazing

what suddenly shows up that way.

Good luck!

Birth control pills won't make you gain weight unless you eat too

much. (I was on them for some 25 years till husband got the clip job)

and never felt bloated, etc. I'd say go for the pills, you'll feel

better. Stick to your BFL program and you won't have any weight gain.

I went through this too, no large cysts just small and the treatment

was birth control pills. I didn't really mind because the pill took

the edge off my appetite and I lost weight. Took them for about 6

months at the lowest dose and fixed the problem, few years later it

started again and the 6 months of pills fixed it again. Only side

effect was migrane triggers dramatically increased and I had to be

extra careful about what I ate, of course I had migranes before the

pill. Hope you are feeling better soon, Yeta

I am on the pill and have not experienced weight gain or water

retention. I think every woman is different so it may not necessarily

affect you that way. I do not like being on the pill due to health

issues that they talk about with woman on the pill for a prolonged

period of time but I have not had any vicious side effects. I don't

know anything about natural methods, I will be anxious to see what

responses you get too!

Hope this helps! I think the pill really effects everyone differently.

Hang in there!!!

I've been on the pill for years. The side effects were: my periods got light and

regular, my skin cleared up, my PMS bloating and cramps went away, and I got

really, REALLY fit. :-) Although, I think getting fit had more to do with eating

right and hitting the gym. I don't think the pill hindered my progress in any

way, and the benefits were really substantial. Pre-pill, I used to turn into a

big fat sobbing hormone every month.

I have been on the pill 8 years and all I have had are positive

benefits. Lighter period, NO CRAMPING, less bloating etc. There are

NUMEROUS bc pills to chose from, and if you don't like the way the

ones your doc prescribes make you feel after 1-3 months, request they

try a different one. The only weight I ever gained from bc pills was

H20 which with the pill I am on, only lasts a week (2-6 pounds) and I

just don't weigh myself that week of the month is all.

Additionally - you lower your risk of ovarian and uterine cancers

(hard to catch, harder to treat and usually fatal) by taking bc

pills. There was some concern that it increases your breast cancer

risk, but I do not remember if they conclusively proved it or not.

I say give it go. If you don't like it, or they don't work, just quit

taking them.

Good Luck!!

ME TOO ME TOO :) Especially the sobbing hormone part!! At one point

I discussed switching to the shot you get every three months and my

doctor indicated it was more prone to weight gain and increased acne

so I decided against it. My side effects on my current pill have all

been positive.

From a guy who probably knows a bit too much about birth control

pills, try to get brand name, not generic.

Hi

You sound like you could use a break. I was in a similar situation

(my period every two weeks for almost two years, now that was fun)

and found that alternative medicine did the trick for me. It was a

real leap of faith, having been raised on conventional medicine and

never in my wildest dreams did I think I would step foot into the

realm of the unknown. I went to a natropathic physician (call your

nearest alternative medical school for recommendations or ask at your

local health food store) and found that I was deficient in Vitamin B,

among other things. He did some accuPRESSURE (not puncture) and

readjusted my body in about two sessions. It was nothing short of a

miracle. I can't tell you exactly how he did it, but I have been on

a 28 day regular cycle now for four years. What I love most was

there was no prescription drug, no invasive procedure and nothing

artifical. A very easy remedy for your menstral cramps is to brew

some dried yarrow flowers (you can find at the health food store or

reputable supplement supply). I found this idea in the May 2000

Natural Health magazine and it has been really effective. If you

want the directions, just let me know. I am not a fan of birth

control pills and it isn't the right choice for me, although many

people seem to like them. I think you can find other alternatives if

you choose. Good Luck, and you can beat this.

Hi kt1968,

The yarrow tea is really easy to make:

(yarrow contains astringent compounds that slow bleeding by

constricting blood vessels)

1. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 tablespoon dried yarrow

2. Cover and steep for 15 minutes

3. Strain and sweeten if desired since it is on the bitter side.

If you ever have a regular cycle, or can predict when you will begin

your period then begin drinking 3 cups of yarrow tea daily (spread it

out over the day, several days before you start. During your period,

drink 1/2 cup of the tea every hour, up to 4 cups a day.

I hope this helps you. It really worked for me. Good Luck!
