A memory of Tylenol

When wrote that the nurse told her to bring Tylenol to the

hospital because they wouldn't begiving her child any before

leaving, I was reminded of something that now makes me laugh.

When my daughter was in the hospital for heart surgery 9 years ago,

it was misserable. There were complications. A planned 11 day stay

stretched to 90! This was in a city 100 miles from home. I spent

every second with her in her room except when I went to the grocery

store. By day 30, my body was screaming and my head throbbed

something fierce. I was taking 12 to 16 Tylenol a day.

One morning, a bitch of a nurse came in. I particularly hated this

lady for how harshly she treated my daughter and how gruff and smug

she was to me. She saw me taking some pills.

" What are those? " she demanded.

" Tylenol. My head hurts. "

" You can't bring medication into this hospital. I'll have to take

them. " She put out her skeletal hand.

I looked her in the eye and said calmly, " These are the only thing

keeping me from ripping your head from your shoulders out of sheer

pain and frustration. I would suggest you get out of this room and

not return. "

She glared at me for a minute. Her cold expression shifted into

one of fear. She took me at my word, turned, left and never came

back. The doctor later chastised me with a smile. When he left, I

found a bottle of motrin on the table. Bless that man.
