Wine soap

Kathy,

Maybe you'd start with getting the soap the right color. Since beer soap

works out pretty well, wine shouldn't be too difficult to just sub for the

water. Still, you'd probably want some fragrance - and that would be the

toughest part. Mind still wandering around this one......

I've made a wine soap and color is a part of your consideration.

Color would depend upon the type of wine you are using, though.

Chardonay could still be white, but a merlot or shiraz would be a

different story. The scent will certainly need to be enhanced, as I

found not much of it, if any, stayed in the soap.

You also need to watch temp closely or the alcohol will boil up when

you add lye to wine . . . When I do beer soap, I let it go flat

first.

I make wine soap all the time. The wine adds lots of suds to the

soap. I use homemade wine which has a higher alcohol content and it

works fine. I let the win sit out opened in the bottle for a few

days before using. I use wine in place of water 100%. You must be

very careful when mixing the lye with it as it will bubble up and

out of the container very easy. Just add it slowly until mixed and

it's good to go when cooled down. One thing, it does smell bad but

when made into soap the smell is gone. It's great stuff. If you

need help please let me know.

Oh and one thing you might do is grapevine shaped soap. Also, add a

little wine to lotion and call it wine lotion. Nice thing for a

winery to sell.

Good Luck

Jeanine,

Let me know how you like BB's Berry Wine in soap. It smelled like

vinegar out of the bottle to me. :-)

Thanks to all for your kind comments. It was fun making it. My

neighbor came in while I was simmering the wine and said the

neighborhood smelled like a still. I had my exhaust fan on. It did

make the house smell like wine for a few hours. How bad is that?
