Why are they teaching it if it's not in their scope as of yet? That would be like chiro college teaching Prolotherapy or whatever.

We have to fight this crap with all we got.

Dear Colleagues,

Just got off the phone with one of the professors at Pacific Univ School of PT. He confirmed that they are being taught spinal manipulation/adjustments e.g.., high velocity low amplitude thrusting procedures.....in their "Neck and Trunk" assessment and intervention course which is a whole 45 hrs long!

My guess is the schools our teaching manipulation so the PTs can say, " It should

be in our scope. Our schools teach it. "

With a school teaching manipulation it takes away the strongest criticism of PTs

performing it.

Dear Vern and Colleagues:

What can be learned in a 45 hour long course? This information needs to be exposed to the general public regarding the true education and experience that is offered by the P.T.'s that perform mobilization.

We need to strengthen our professional status and be strong about our specialty and

musculoskeletal/ neurological and wellness abilities.

Why does the general public choose Chiropractic care for this problem or that?

Because it is the most cost effective, and offers the quickest response for the majority of the conditions we treat. Nothing restores a sore back quicker than chiropractic care. period. Nothing restores a sports injury quicker than Chiropractic care. Want to compete as an athlete with the best "performance health" possible? There is simply nothing that comes close to our results.

Why are the schools teaching it if it is not in scope? We should be looking

at taking that course out of the curriculum, secondary to scope of practice

and public safety. It would appear that the PT schools are teaching

" chiropractic " . Maybe it is time for our board to protect the public.

Just because "someone" is teaching a 45-hour course at one of the PT schools PRESENTLY, doesn't mean the majority of PT's in the field have received this training.

Clearly, we should know who is teaching these "manipulation" courses.

And, clearly, we should force an education/qualification distinction between ALL joint segments...(i.e., cervical, thoracic, lumbar, costovertebral, EXTREMITY...etc.). Are they "qualified" in all areas???

Dean and colleagues,

Understand that those 45 hours are for "Musculoskeletal Exam & intervention for the neck & trunk" hence a very limited number of those whopping 45 hours are relative to their training/being shown how to perform/in spinal adjustments/manipulations...can you say yikes!

Greetings, friends,More information is needed in regard to PTs and manipulative training (MT).  We need to know the extent of such training statewide and nationwide in the various PT schools.  We need to know how broadly MT is being used in state/nation.  We need to discover any problems that have arisen as a result of PT use of MT state/nation wide.  We need to know if any applicable laws are violated, or safety of public is endangered.  We need legal advice as to possible scenarios for response.Does the Board have a budget for this type of intervention/discovery?  Do the Associations?  Sears, DCNW PDXOn Oct 18, 2006, at 1:41 PM, Vern Saboe wrote:Dear Colleagues, Just got off the phone with one of the professors at Pacific Univ School of PT.  He confirmed that they are being taught spinal manipulation/adjustments e.g.., high velocity low amplitude thrusting procedures.....in their "Neck and Trunk" assessment and intervention course which is a whole 45 hrs long! Comments? Vern Saboe
