Guest guest
Kids: There is this phenominal young chiro that I have told you about. His name is Chestnut. He is a rebel...so if you are like me and " rebels " interest you, then listen up.... He is teaching a 4 module (in person) 4 module (on the web) year-long wellness certification seminar. It started with about 120 of us packed in small hotel seminar room in Seattle (amazingly, there was a huge Oregon presence, even though it is an ICA thing)....now they are expecting that number to almost double so they moved it to the Red Lion Bellevue. You can start the series now, even if you missed the first one. This guy is smart: He is Arty Croft kind of smart...This guy reads voraciously...like Mikey Freeman kinda reading....just pouring thru journals year after year.....only his area of focus is different. This guy entered chiro college with a Masters in Physiology with an emphasis on ADAPTIVE NEUROLOGY!! His professors at CMCC did not know what to do with him, because he was already above their level of knowledge. He is pissing off alot of chiros young and old because his work is forcing them to examine their current paradigms. He pisses off the ADIO guys/gals because he shows that the nervous system is actually mostly afferant, not efferent. He pisses off the guys turning on the power, because he shows how " turning on the power " is not enough. He pisses off the allopractors who spend their careers memorizing Tierny et al. and becoming experts at labeling various pathologic/traumatic conditions because he shows how it really does not make any difference what you call the " condition " ....as almost all " conditions " will require the SAME solution. I love his approach for this reason. He is correct! ;-) He is like a breath of fresh are in my opinion. And he has something for everyone of us, regardless of your practice approach/specialty...if your are interested in studying health and wellness and not just sickness, trauma etc. Then his approach is sure to stimulate you. His model, simply put is this: Humans, like rainforests, like wetlands, like Oceans, are ecosystems. Only two things can throw an ecosystem out of it's natural balance (homeostasis): 1- too much of something (toxicity) 2- too little of something (deficieny) Only one thing will ever put an Ecosystem back into true homeostasis: Giving the system exactly what it 'needs' and eliminating what it does not need. Period. You can try to fake out an ecosystem and/or " improve " nature with various artificial interventions, but you are NEVER bringing it back to homeostasis. You may be able to keep it stable, for a while, vis-a-vis artificial stop gaps. This stable state is termed " allostasis " and will work for a while but is ultimately NON-SUSTAINABLE!! He even has the cajones to say : " There is NO such thing as pathology, just adaptive physiology. And then he backs it up with a mountain of left-brained research. He wants chiros to go back to their physiology text-books (Guyten) and learn that stuff, for real, and de-emphasize the stuff in the pathology/medical texts. So if being part of " sustainable health care " interests you, if ecology interests you, if protection and preservation of environmental systems (on a micro and macro level) interestes you...AND you want to be one of the " cool kids " , then be there or be square. Warning, warning, warning, there will be no talk of how to deal with insurance or third parties etc.....because he honestly states up front: This paradigm is about 98% INcompatable with any current third party " health insurance " schemes that currently exist (except perhaps for HSAs and wellness-oriented programs). The concept of " health inurance " is not " health " insurance at all , but rather 'accident/injury'/disability' insurance and such programs are based on a flawed , incorect, mechanistic/mechanical model of how the human body works/functions. any way, i could go on and on....check out cspine.org calendar for info cheers, and let's all continue to inspire and challenge each other to do better than we have thus far J. www.springbrookclinic.com Springbrook Chiropractic & Natural Health Center www.cspine.org Home of the Oregon Chiropractic Forums & Calendar Moderator: /
