Guest guest
Well there is a first time for everything....this show was a Patchouli blast! I almost sold out of patchouli soap which, is a first for me. I happen to love patchouli so to meet so many patchouli lovers in one day was amazing. I also met a great gal (a fellow soaper) named Judy, told her about our list and invited her to join. We talked for a bit about shows and this and that. She was just so friendly. Very refreshing considering the B* & $% I met at my last show (LOL). I had a great time, made a few contacts for future venues and sold a little. Foot traffic was light (again) and not for lack of advertising and signage. I just think people are burned out on craft shows. Let's hope we have hit rock bottom (attendance wise) and are on the up swing. It can only get better right? I know things are strange when my Orange Marmalade potpourri doesn't fly out the door. I have been making this for years and it had always been a sure thing. I have not done shows since 2000, when craft shows were at there peak. From what I understand it's been down hill since 2001. Back then you could not come up for air until at least 2:30. Your booth was usually 5-10 people deep at all times. 10x your booth was no problem. A bad day was $350 . - and these where not huge shows. These were your average high school craft shows. Times are different that's for sure. Either way, I love what I do and I will continue to do as long as I can. Now, off to make a batch of PATCHOULI soap :):) Deb

Guest guest
Deb- Congrats on the great show! It's nice to hear of someone having a good show. So many of them have been bad reports this year. I hope this is a good sign for those of you who have more shows this year! Guest guest
It's good to hear things went well. I find that even if i don't make much in line of sales. Its still a good day when i meet new people and we chat about this and that and new contacts are formed. I enjoy talking about all sorts of things and learning about other craft sales out there. Then again i am just starting out so any info is always appreciated. Hmmmm .... so then I am just starting out during the worst time for craft sales. Well i suppose that could be good. I don't have any great years to compare with. I don't really have any GREAT big HUGE expectations out of any of these. Just that i make back my booth fee and well a bit more. Doubling it would be good but i have noticed with the few that i did that does seem to happen much. Funny thing is though is I did way better at my first craft sale in the spring and my second one in the summer then i have done on my last few I've just participated in. You would think with the holidays comming along more people would buy stuff as gifts. Apparently not. But people are saying its because of the same causes, (gas, election, and so on). Well hopfully things will get better, this is what i enjoy doing and If things don't, I fear my family will try to tell me to get out fo the art business. I sure don't want that to happen. I don't want to end up like my sister and stop making art and get stuck in retail for 20 years like she did.
