Guest guest
I usually lurk on this board but wanted to respond because I too get discouraged. In dealing with that right now I have to constantly remind myself I didn't put this weight on overnight and it certainly isn't going to go away overnight. Everyday I focus on a positive change and they are not always physical changes for example I have more energy, I am more frequently making better food choices. You said you are stronger and more toned that is a huge gain. You said your bf has noticed changes often others can see what we cannot. Just take a look at your diet, be honest with yourself and keep on keeping on. Remember we want this to be for life.
Guest guest
Most of us who do the calorie counting have done BFL a few times. My first challenge, I saw no results until week 11.5. Seriously. It wasnt until then and then it seemed like it all came off overnight. Dont give up. Why not post a daily menu. Maybe there is room for improvement? Guest guest
Joanne: This is only my 4th week. Why don't you post a menu and let everyone take a look at it. You don't have to be obsessed w/food, but some of us are. I am a data person. People are going to have different opinions on the calorie thing. Look at hussman.org. I am a believer in the fact that you have to create a calorie deficit in order to lose body fat. The only way you are going to be able to keep up with a deficit is to keep a record and count. I am in my fourth week and have only lost 1 pound. When I was taking diet pills and not eating I would have lost 10 by now. BUT this is healthier. Don't give up, it works!!!!! You have to believe in it and stick with it. You have come too far to give up now. Keep posting and reading the post, you can do it! Noelle Ready to give this up! Hello Ladies, I am looking for some sort of inspiration or thoughts on this. I am completeley and totally frustrated. I am at the same weight, and my clothes are not fitting any differently. Guest guest
Well, your menus look pretty good. I know, I know, I know BFL doesn't say anything about counting, it's about portions, but are you measuring? I have been using Fitday and I think you said you didn't like it, but I think its kind of neat. I can see where my stuff is coming from. For instance, I try to stay around 1200 to 1300 which isn't a huge deficit, I could go lower. But anyway, yesterday I was at 1400. I had too much when I had that last protein shake. I see that now. Maybe you could cut the EAS bars and do a 1/2 cup cottage cheese and a half an apple. That would be less calories right there. I am trying not to do the bars unless I just have to. And, I do on Saturdays when I'm on shopping trips etc. Just keep on doing what you are doing. It will work for you! You have come this far. I can't wait to be in week 10. Guest guest
Maybe you should re-visit your goals. I did that last week and it helped a lot. I'm like you, I have that *last* 10 pounds to lose, which we all know is the toughest, hardest, incredibly stubborn to lose! Don't get discouraged though! A lot of women have better suggestions than myself on the nutrition part, but as far as your weights, maybe try doing something different? Have you changed your workout every 4- 6 weeks? Try that maybe. Good luck, and stick with it! You can do it. I'd tried everything to lose that extra weight, and this is the only thing that worked. Keep us posted! Guest guest
Joanne - I just wanted to chime in with my 2 cents. I did a challenge last summer and had great results. However, I only lost about 6 or 7 pounds. It is true that it does seem to happen overnight - usually sometime in the last 4 weeks of the program (for some people it's not until week 12!). It seemed like I woke up one morning and the shorts that were snug the day before were suddenly a little looser. If you have read the " Hussman on BFL " article, check it out. It's a great backup and booster to the BFL book (www.hussman.org/fitness/). This really will work, it just takes longer for some people than for others! It's hard to change that mindset that focuses us on the bathroom scale, but you have to get away from that. I started again about 10 weeks ago and haven't weighed once. I know some people would say that I need to track my progress, but I feel my progress in my clothes. It's not significant YET, but I am seeing more muscle defininition and I know it will come! Hang in there! > Hello Ladies, > I am looking for some sort of inspiration or thoughts on this. I am > completeley and totally frustrated. Guest guest
I don't know what to tell you darlin. I have seen this complaint several times and seen many people say that they didn't SEE the results until they viewed the pics and literally until that 11th or 12th week. Plus, you're a size 10 and prolly not in that bad of shape?? The less you have to improve and lose, the less 'dramatic' the results will be. Another thing is, have you REALLY been hitting those 10s, getting that cardio in and drinking your WATER? I have just heard that those can be huge determining factors. And as a side note, I DO have experience in fad diets. They DO work. BUT, you can't keep that up for life like you can BFL and most are very unhealthy and will cause 'weight' loss, but not necessarily FAT loss. So, you may end up losing precious fat burning muscle in the bargain. Good luck in whatever you decide. I'm sorry you're feeling down. I was just talking to my hubby the other day and said to him 'I'm eating better than ever before, I'm chugging water...the weight should just be FALLING off'...I feel like I shouldn't even HAVE to work out, ya know? Not true, however and I DO FEEL better, even if it's not visually noticable yet! Astra > Hello Ladies, > I am looking for some sort of inspiration or thoughts on this. Guest guest
The only thing that jumps out at me are those advantedge bars. I know people have had better success without them. Also, you may want to revisit the portions. There seems to be alot of confusion over palm and fist sizes. Some people include their fingers, which is just too much. Some people are using water displacement and coming up with 1 cup for carbs. I think that's normally too much. If you have 200lbs to lose, it's fine. But trying to tweak from a size 10 to a size 8, may take less food than that. Astra > > That was so nice. Guest guest
Joanne - One other thought - are you sure you are eating enough calories??? Sometimes that can be the problem on this program, too. (What a great plan - I actually have to eat to lose weight! HA!) I know that for each of my 6 meals I need about 290 cals with about 25g protein, 25g carb and 6g fat. I don't measure and count everything I eat, but I have that in mind so that I know that I'm getting enough. I don't have an Advantage Bar in the house right now, but I'm thinking that may not be enough to qualify for a true BFL " meal. " Just double check yourself to be sure. I am hungry every 2-3 hours, too, but that's the whole idea...lots of small meals spread out through the day. You might need a little than that since you are only eating 5x a day. Hussman can help you figure that out. > > That was so nice. I have gone over my menus w/ my bf who is doing > this as well, and he is a person who has been working out/personal > trainer for 20 years. > 1. flax cereal, chicken breast > 2. eas advantedge bar > 3. apple, chicken breast > 4. cottage chhese, cherries > 5. chicken, fish, veggies, salad, > > > 1. egg beaters, broccolli, 1/4 ww pita 1 tsp. pbutter > 2. eas advantedge bar > 3. tuna, peach > 4. eas advantedge bar > 5. chicken breast, green beans, salad, cherries > Here are 2 sample menus > please advise

Did you take before pictures? Sometimes the scale is actually the least accurate way to gauge your progress. If you go to bodychangers at: http://www.bodychangers.com/nextlevel.shtml Go to the interviews. Some women actually gained weight (a few pounds) and lost body fat and had really visible transformations. So maybe you need to measure your progress differently? You also should be getting in six meals a day. Other than that, I'll let the experts have a go at it as I'm still new to this. Hiya The closer you get to your goal, the harder it becomes.. and, if you only had ten pounds to lose, that means it's harder But you're getting stronger which means you're building muscle. Body For Life isn't about quick weight loss.. it's about building your best body for life. And part of that is gaining muscle while you lose weight. The program -will- work (I'd say it is working if you're stronger!) but it will take time. I've been doing BFL since Jan 14th. I use portion sizes.. I don't obsess with calories and food all the time.. and I'm seeing great results. I have way more energy, I'm sleeping better, my clothes (even though I haven't dropped a size) are fitting a heck of a lot better than they ever did, I'm stronger, I'm healthier, and life is better in general. Your weight loss will come.. just focus on the other results until it does Yes, you probably could have lost more weight by now with another program but I guarantee that some/most of that weight loss would have been muscle. You can do it.. just have patience Serenity

I'd recommend switching to more whole foods for better results. Also.. you could probably use more veggies Have you measured your hand? A lot of women fall prey to the ever shrinking portion size.. and then you run the risk of not giving your body the fuel that it needs to burn fat and build muscle. My hand is between 2/3 cup and 1 cup so, when I worry that I'm getting off track, I measure. Serenity

Guest guest
It may very well be working, but there may come a time when you have to lower that when you get closer to your goal. BTW, never meant to insinuate that YOU had 200lbs to lose, just using that number as an example. I still don't think a palm portion size includes the fingers, but I don't like portion sizes anyway!!;-) Astra > > > The only thing that jumps out at me are those advantedge bars. Guest guest
It doesn't appear that the meals are the problem with the exception of the Advantedge bar that was mentioned in an earlier post. Maybe the workout portion should be revisited now. Do you skip any? Are you lifting heavy enough weight and really being honest with yourself about hitting the outer limits of your ability? When you are done working out do you feel that you have made the most of the time spent or do you walk away feeling that you " didn't do well? " Are you doing cardio beyond the point where you can talk at the same time. If you can still talk then it probably is not intense enough to burn that stubborn 10 pounds. This is going to sound totally off the wall but are you getting enough fat? Fatty acids ingested are necessary for the release of an enzyme responsible for the mobilization of stored fat(Lipase might be the name of the enzyme--I'm no biochemist but have read a lot about it). This reportedly is responsible for releasing free fatty acids from the adipose tissue(fat) into the bloodstream which can be used as energy by peripheral tissues(such as muscles). In short this takes fat from one's thighs, places it in the bloodstream where an upcoming intense cardio session will burn it off as energy providing your cardio is done prior to eating. Carbs and insulin will derail this process so that's why it is so important to do cardio before eating if major fatloss is desired. Didn't mean to get off on all that but sometimes if you can visualize what happens it is easier to make it happen. Hope this helps. Don't give up, your BFL journey is really just beginning. Stasia P.S. Most of the commercial weight loss programs are designed to separate you from your money, not your weight, at least not long term. Guest guest
--- In @y..., " s_bachrach " <s_bachrach@y...> Thanks for all that info Stasia!! I work my ass off literally. I worked out w/my bf on Mondaty to ensure that all is going correctly. He touched up my form a bit but, reassured me that it's all right. I am going until failure each time.I am killing myself in each workout. That's the frustrating part of it. I am always sore, and hungry but I can't wear a size 8. I pass by skinny girls eating fries, and I feel like screaming!!!!! I also add a tablespoon of olive oil and flax a day...So I am getting in my EFA's. Thanks for your help. You know I don't really want to give up. I just needed some whining time, and a little extra advice and suport!
