Guest guest
Can you unscrew one side or both sides of it to get the soap out? Shaye ? about prepping a mold I have a mold, don't know what it's made of but you can see it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem <http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem & category=28116 & item=814502685 9 & rd=1> & category=28116 & item=8145026859 & rd=1 I made my cp in it, and like how the bars turn out. However, I have to slide the cutter between the soap and walls of the mold to free the soap. Can I put some oil on the sides and bottom of the mold, or will that just get sucked into the soap? I'm trying to figure out what to do to make the release easier. LOL, I know I can just make a freezer paper insert, but oil would be easier. Just curious what others use in their molds. Thanks all! Guest guest
Hi Colleen! Oil won't work because it will get saponified (ask me how I know.... ;-) I have a plastic mold too and I use plastic to line it....you could use either plastic wrap or I have also used the plastic sheeting you buy as a drop cloth for painting, or even a plastic garbage bag. Just take a little Vaseline and put it on the mold which will help hold the plastic in place and smooth it out. What frustrates me is it's lots of work for those no-line molds! :-) HTH! ? about prepping a mold > > > I have a mold, don't know what it's made of but you can see it here: > http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem & category=28116 & item=8145026859 & rd=\ 1 > > I made my cp in it, and like how the bars turn out. Guest guest
> Oil won't work because it will get saponified (ask me how I know.... That's what I figured would happen. LOL, but I like my term better " get sucked into the soap " !!! My brain just wasn't working earlier, only one cup of coffee this morning. And then I'm trying to get the house clean, laundry done, soap made, everything in order cause is coming home today. > What frustrates me is it's lots of work for those no-line molds! Oh I totally agree! I really like the mold, but I just about kill myself trying to pry the sides away from my soap. That goes for cp and mp. And even though it has a cutter, I still can't cut an even bar of soap! Thanks ! Guest guest
Colleen, Do you have a JoAnne's or other fabric store around? Look for blank, clear template sheets. I found a picture in JoAnne.com: http://www.joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=24990 & PRODID=47282. The store near me has a different brand, but it's the same thing. Get enough sheets to make two sets of linings. Take the time to measure and cut one set, and label the pieces clearly. Save it for your template set. Using your template set, cut another set to use to line your molds. It works as well as or better than freezer paper or any of the other lining methods. It always lays flat. Each set will last through several batches, and making a new set is easy once you have your template. Guest guest
Thanks Diane, but I got an error when I tried to view. Boo Hoo! I'll have to check again later. I don't have a JoAnn's near me. I think the closest one in my state is 3 hours away. I've got 's, AC , and Hobby Lobby so I can try one of them. And I haven't been to Hobby Lobby yet, so there's a good excuse to go check them out! Thanks again for the suggestion! Guest guest
Try going to the JoAnne's website directly and select quilting, then templates. It's on the fourth page, or was when I looked for it. A picture is just easier to use to try to explain what I mean. I have both 's and AC near me, and neither have it. Of course, 's and AC may carry different things in different areas. I don't know Hobby Lobby, it's worth a try. Do you any fabric store nearby? Quilter's buy fabric in fabric stores, so the fabric stores have all the quilting supplies. If you know any quilters, ask where they get their supplies. Guest guest
> Can you unscrew one side or both sides of it to get the soap out? Oh yeah, the whole thing comes apart. However, just cause the screws come out, doesn't mean the soap wants to budge off the walls. LOL! Like right now it's all apart and the loaf is still stuck to the base. I just haven't felt like trying to get it off. Colleen Handcrafted Glycerin Soap http://www.countrymeadowcreations.com

It looks nice. I do either freezer paper or Glad Press 'n Seal. I think you'd have to use a non-saponifiable oil, such as mineral oil. Guest guest
Greetings, Can I chime in for a minute? Concerning prepping molds: I was thinking of trying to run some tape along the cut where the slicer goes in on my wood mold and coating the entire inside with vaseline. Does anyone see a problem with that? I used vaseline on the inside of a PVC pipe and it seemd to work, so I'm considering trying it on the inside of the wood mold. Has anyone else tried this, before I subject the mold to this test? e > Hi Colleen! > > Oil won't work because it will get saponified (ask me how I know.... ;-) I > have a plastic mold too and I use plastic to line it....you could use either > plastic wrap or I have also used the plastic sheeting you buy as a drop > cloth for painting, or even a plastic garbage bag. Guest guest
The soap mass is thick enough so that it doesn't seep out. Guest guest
Beth, if it makes you nervous, try it with a small batch. This is one of those times where you can test two things at once since the lining is separate from the soap. If you have a soap recipe that you've been considering, now's a good time for a 1 pound batch of it. Diane GreenFireHerbs.com " Never say 'can't' when there's a 'How About This' still to be tried!
