Dear Frustrated in NY-

First, don't pull your hair out cause you'll get lots of weird looks

from folks! Well, maybe not from moms in your situation, but anyway!

My 9yr. old is doing much better this year with his organizational

skills when it comes to school work, his bedroom, well that's a whole

other story. When he gets home from school he knows that his first

task is to take out his folder, show us what he has for homework (so

we know right off the bat), he goes to his room and does his work,

brings it to us to check on, then in the folder it goes, folder gets

placed back in the backpack (which gets zipped so the folder doesn't

somehow jump out), and the backpack gets placed by the front door so

it is there in the morning.

We found that he needs the same routine every day so that he can stay

on task. Now we've just got to remember to check his papers for name,

date, and subject. He forgets that at least 2-4 times a week.

So Frustrated, try not to let this bother you too much. Just stress

the importance of being organized, show how it makes life much easier

(LOL, no more crazy mom), and she'll realize that life flows smoothly

with organization!

Good luck & let us know what happens!

You might want to try printing out a list of before school checks, and put

it in a clear page protector (make sure it's not the kind that is textured).

Using a dry erase marker, she can check off each individual step and you

can go over it before she leaves in the morning to make sure she did follow

through on things... Then you just wipe it off after she leaves and it's

ready for the next day.

This can also be applied to chores... and have her take 15 minutes at a time

to work on them (use a timer if it helps), then go back for another 15

minutes later on and work some more... The timer makes it easier to stay one

task, because you know you only have to put forth the effort for

so-many-more " minutes, then you can just stop in mid task and pick up where

you left off, or finish if you like...

I have been working with an organization system found on www.flylady.net

that follows a similar format, but in regards to housework and home

organization... and it has been easy to apply to work things also..

Hope this helps some

Sam

Goodmorning guys! I hate to bother you with this but I am sooo frustrated

by my organizational skills of my 11 year old. Or rather the lack of. She

can do good school work but her problem is finding her homework to hand in.

This morning I go into her room to fume about the clothes she was suppose to

put away but rather stuffed under her bed, and there is her homeowrk folder

on the floor with homework she was suppose to have handed in today (actually

last week). I asked her to be sure she had everything she was suppose to

for school today and later we will deal with these clothes issue. I guess

I will have to constantly go right behind her to make sure she does what she

says she did. And its not just with school, but also with stuf around the

house. Like for instance she borrowed my hairbrush and set it down

someplace that nobody can find. (She broke hers and I forgot to buy her one

at the store) Sooo now I am without my brush this morning *sigh*. Im not a

happy mommy today. LOL

Sooo Im throwing out the question because what do I have to loose....

Anybody got any organizational suggestions for her? Forget the hairbrushe,

I'll just pull my hair out instead.
